My friends and I stayed at the Broughton for the weekend of the rugby in May 2017. Owners were lovely - great communications too - and breakfast was absolutely perfect. Proximity to 360 deg town views.

The Broughton is well situated for the City, close to pubs and eateries, super clean with comfortable beds and delicious breakfasts on offer. Friendly and helpful hosts make you feel welcome. A nice touch was the correct travel plug for my country already in the room! I would not hesitate to recommend the Broughton for business or pleasure.

We stayed for 2 nights at the Broughton Hotel on 11th & 12th May. Fiona was very friendly, helpful and made us great breakfast every morning to get our day started. The hotel is as easy 5 minute downhill walk from the York Place tram station which is only 30 minutes direct from Edinburgh airport. A super easy way to...

We stayed at this hotel for one night as we were attending a show at the Playhouse, It's in a quiet spot very near the Playhouse, lots of good restaurants and bars but well away from the noise. The room was very small but very clean and the breakfast was freshly cooked to order. Glad we found it and would definitely...

We were attending a show at the Playhouse and this fabulous B&B is less than a 5 minutes walk. The owners are so welcoming and friendly and the room we had was ideal and breakfast was great. Nothing is a bother for Fiona & Freddie and we will certainly hope to stay there again. Their free parking facility is a...

Fiona was extremely helpful with advice on eating, sightseeing and travel. The location of the hotel was excellent and the room was very comfortable albeit on the second floor. The breakfasts were very good and the WiFi worked well.

It's Very nice B&B near Edinburgh historical centre, near restaurants and bar (new town). It isn't expensive. At the morning a rich breakfast is served. The family is very friendly. The room was very quiet.

Stayed in the hotel April 14-19, 2017. The hotel is about 10-15 minute walk to the old town of Edinburgh where most of the tourist attractions are. The hotel itself is small, clean, and feels very "homey". The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast included is great and has several options, including a vegetarian option. The...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
