Staff at guest house was very friendly and helpful. Amazing location. We came for a weekend away with friends and wanted to see as much as possible in few days we had, so Elder York Guest House was perfect for us because all main touristy places are within the walking distance. It is also fairly close to the train station...

After a very long journey I arrived at Elder York Guest House wanting no more than a nap in a quiet room. The young man who greeted me quickly accessed my needs and upgraded me to a larger and very quiet room. I promptly fell asleep for 12 hours. It was cosy, spotlessly clean, very quiet even with the view...

Have just returned from Edinburgh today and have to say it was a very enjoyable stay. Lets start with location which was about a 6 mins walk from train station and about the same to Playhouse theatre, Great location. Yes, there is stairs to climb to get to the reception and bedrooms but this is clearly stated on website and...

Very pleasant Manager...most informative and helpful. Breakfast was good...plentiful. However, the room was somewhat awkward in terms of its configuration...the shower being the problem! Grubby and tired...cramped and tired in terms of its decoration.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
