This is the hotel's official description, I took the liberty of adding some comments: How often to you get to sleep in brand new beds - ALL OLD, BROKEN AND DANGEROUS. The bed slats broke on 3 of the beds we slept on which is extremely dangerous and made us feel very uncomfortable as the beds could have collapsed at...

The facility was in terrible condition and clearly hadn't been cleaned for a long time. Bathroom especially was in poor shape. The staff was fine but oddly recommended that if I needed anything I ask one of the other residents rather than the staff.

Boutique Backpackers is a very dirty hostel. In the bedrooms, walls, windows, and bed surfaces were dirty. Litter from previous residents was pushed under beds. In bathrooms, there are large patches of black mould on the walls and well developed layers of grime show that there is no regular cleaning on showers or basins. In the kitchen, residents leave food...

The hostel is in a perfect location (unless you have a car but that's to be expected as it is right in the city center). It is really easy to get to any location as you can walk to most areas in the city center and there is a bus stop right outside if you want to go further afield....

First thing to point out is that all the photos on Hostel World etc. are misleading, and probably of somewhere else. We stayed 3 nights during the Edinburgh festival in a mixed shared dorm. As you walk in from the evening air and follow the faded, dirty, torn-up carpet up the stairs of this presumably once-grand townhouse, you may find...

We stayed there last night and we turned off the lights to go to sleep. We heard scratching under the bed and turned the light on a few minutes later to find a mice was eating our breakfast... There was no one at reception when I tried to report it.

First of all the cleaning was a nightmare, poor quality of pillows and to be honest everything included into the room was terrible. Cant believe that this is a ''hostel''. it would be more suitable for animals not individuals. The website shows a false representation of the hostel, false images especially the bathroom photo. the door of the rooms that...

I stayed here with a group of my friends and we had a night out in Edinburgh. We had a very basic room and it could have been a lot cleaner. Rubbish left over from previous guests. The wifi and the shower was not working. Overall it was average. If I had the choice I would stay somewhere else.

I lived in this hostel for 2 months and I had the chance to sleep in different rooms during that time. All of them were very cosy especially the one with toilet inside. The staff was very friendly and as the majority of them lived there permanently seemed to be in a big shared home with friends. The kitchen is...

We were booked to stay on Friday night and on Wednesday afternoon we were told they had double booked so they could not accommodate us! This is disgraceful at such short notice, we had to cancel our trip. We were then told to pick up our deposit at the reception desk which clearly was not possible and seems like the...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
