Had a great overnight at the Hostel. Very convenient, across from the train station (not the main one but a quick hop away). Everything you need, including an affordable simple breakfast. Efficient and clean, with a very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed one night in order to catch a flight early the next day. Fantastically helpful staff - highlight of the trip. Personally found the bathrooms a decent size for a hostel. Very limited internet in my room. All the other cons were due to the other residents - messy kitchen (though well equipped), and woken at 12, 2 and 4...

"You get what you pay for," goes the old refrain. I landed in 18-bunk room and was joined by only a couple other folks. Score. The bunks are super cheap and very close together, however. I can't imagine having stayed in that room with it filled to even to half capacity. There is nowhere to lock your things. You have...

The staff were really helpful- wifi was good. Hostel was nice and clean. Kitchen facilities were good. Good location. Negatives- there were not many negatives but here is what we thought- Not much room in bathrooms- sinks were very small and not much room in showers. This was no fault of the hostel but one guest in our 14 bed...

Stayed a couple of nights here and after 10 minutes I realised it was a bad idea. The beds looked as though the duvet covers are never changed, you are given your own sheet on arrival so at least that was cleaned! The bathroom was disgusting and constantly wet. We had trouble signing on to the wifi.. Only PowerPoint in...

Had to wait 45 minutes for my lunch and it was not very hot. They served people who ordered after me. Management tried to blame the chef. It was the person that took my order that is to blame. CRAP service.

This place is very unpleasant to stay in. The receptionist was rude from the moment our party arrived. She refused to give us the keys to our room until the other members of our group arrived which was very unreasonable considering we had paid in advance. The room itself was an 8 bed dorm-style room. It was very small and...

This place is like Anne Frank's attic, beds where not made, toilets stank and there was no pray, no where to straighten hair in room, no mirror, no kettle, it was like an army camp, £75 a night for a bed, could have got a bloody 5 star hotel for that price!! Receptionist was so rude and cheeky! There was...

Everything was alright with the booking, check-in etc. We booked a 3 bed dormitory for the three of us. This was much more comfortable than the halls, which seemed to be really small for so many beds and persons. The bathrooms were okay, however the kitchen was not really clean, especially the sponge for cleaning and dish towels should have...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
