Thank you for a great two night stay in central Edinburgh. Fabulous breakfast, accommodation and location. Very special thanks to our extremely hospitable host Walter, one place not to be missed if staying in Edinburgh

Our family stayed at Inchgrove House the first two nights of our holiday in Edinburgh, and couldn't have been happier! We had two rooms in the front of the house enjoying the sounds of Edinburgh at night when we opened the windows to experience the delightful weather! Duncan greeted us with coffee and expert advice to get the most out...

We stayed at 17a Abercrombie Place for two nights after a transatlantic flight to Edinburgh. Duncan and Gene were congenial and kind hosts; they were a pleasure to talk to and full of recommendations about where to go and what to see, both in Edinburgh and throughout our trip through the Highlands. Breakfast was at a common table with other...

17a Abercrombie Place, Best B&B. Convenient for everywhere, excellent breakfast. Duncan very helpful and knowledgeable on area. Our second visit, but different location, will most certainly stay again when we next visit Edinburgh. Very comfy bed, bedding and towels of the best quality. The parking was also a real bonus.

The well known saying "If Carlsberg made guest houses" comes to mind when trying to describe this fantastic guest house. Duncan the owner welcomes you as if you were close friends he has a wealth of knowledge of the area and history of the city. Duncan has two properties one on Forres street and the other which we stayed at...

We booked rooms at 8 Forres Street but as refurbishment was not complete stayed at 17a Abercrombie Place. Don't know where to start, it was so good. Duncan's welcome was so friendly and informative we immediately felt at home. Our room was huge, clean and well equipped, and the bed was wonderfully comfortable with quality bedding. Although not en-suite our...

Again stayed here in the annex as we did last year. Felt even more spoilt than before with the fantastic breakfast service. The Annex would not suit disable guests due to the steps but for us it was perfect. Central, quiet location an very short walk to the George St shops and the back of Princes St. One of the...

Duncan is a WONDERFUL "landlord", super accommodating, charming to converse with, thoughtful, interested and has a beautiful town house guest house. His breakfast spread is gorgeously laid out and a delicious made to order menu. Every one sits at the one large dining table, but not everyone arises at the same time and Duncan will sit and join you, telling...

Don't get me wrong - there are some very positive things about this place - I just don't think it's for everyone and it's not the bees knees. We stayed at 17a Abercrombie Place - a lovely building and in a pleasant, quiet area - 5 mins walk from Princes Street - so a good location. Duncan was very helpful,...

Could not fault our experience. The property advertised on 8 Forres Street is under refurbishment, so we were adequately directed to a property on Abercromby place, perfect location, warm feel to it. Duncan (the host) got in contact with us to make sure everything was well before we arrived. After we arrived he kindly sat down with us and took...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
