We had a lovely stay. The hosts were wonderful. They took time over breakfast to have a chat with us adding a personal touch to our stay. The rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. The bathrooms are very clean. Breakfast was delicious. Had a fabulous stay

Stayed for three nights, no complaints at all. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, until Monday morning. On arrival to Rutland square, number 13 is in the top left hand corner, to the right of the Norwegian embassy/consulate, to your very left is a statue of a man on a horse! I say this as there is no identification of...

We stayed at Inchgrove House last weekend, sadly just for one night. We absolutely loved it: the location is fantastic, the apartment is lovely and homely, and Walter couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The highlight for my husband was the amazing breakfast - he went for the full Scottish which kept him going beyond lunchtime and fuelled a...

The first major challenge is finding the place. The website for this four room hotel is years out of date, and it's now in a place with no signs on the door or hallway. The 'hotel' itself is more of a large flat. Yet inside the owners couldn't be friendlier. An older couple, they are friendly and hospitable. The rooms...

The place was OK. Affordable for city centre but room and bathroom were cold and I felt it was not entirely on the level. There was no signage for the business - not even on the bell pull. I would query if this is fully registered and complies with regulations governing bed and breakfast business. The pictures on the site...

Stayed 2 nights of rugby international week end. Extremely Helpful and personable team and very pleasant company while having the fresh, tasty and plentiful breakfast! Beautiful old building in perfect location for both Edinburgh new and old towns. Highly recommended.

The location on Rutland Square was perfect as it is central and within walking distance of Castle, Grassmarket, Haymarket Station, trams,Princes street ect. From arriving in Edinburgh and phoning to confirm directions the hosts were marvellous. Nothing was too much trouble, very knowledgeable about lo locations and how to get about. Room was comfortable and breakfast was marvellous, so much...

We visited Edinburgh in June. This facility had question marks in our minds because it is not a regular hotel and the reviews are really good. I teavelled literally all of the world and my accomodation experience in this guest house was the best experience I ever had. The oscar goes to the host Mr. Duncan and Mr. Walter. They...

We stayed at Inchgrove House for 3 nights. Location in Rutland Square is handy for everything, only 10-15 minutes walk to the castle and Royal Mile. Don't be put off by the entrance, once you enter the flat you find large comfortable rooms. Beds are comfortable and bathroom is spacious. Breakfast is around a communal table, we enjoyed chatting to...

The hosts are knowledgeable and helpful; they went the extra mile to help with parking. However, they have changed locations so the address on the site is incorrect, and the photos do not accurately represent what is now Inchgrove House. We were disappointed in the lack of amenities such as an extra blanket for cool nights. A small table or...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
