I stayed in this hotel for one night (Saturday - Sunday) last weekend. It was the perfect location for a meeting I had in central Edinburgh on the Sunday. It's only 2 mins walk from Haymarket Station and within easy reach of tram and bus services. The hotel room was lovely, had everything I needed and was very clean. Comfy...

As a mother/daughter hiking pair, our accommodation was pre-booked by our Hiking Company. We were pleased with the choice of location, close to Haymarket Station and good eating houses in the vicinity. A group of lovely renovated buildings (our rooms were not in the main hotel but in the building alongside). Both of our rooms were clean and cosy with...

Visited for my partners birthday last year for 5 days. The staff were excellent and very accommodating. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the location was perfect for the main town and train station. We could walk to the zoo in about 45 minutes. Excellent value and would visit again when we are back in the city.

Great little hotel close to Haymarket station and other bus stops. Very reasonable price for room which was furnished well and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with a choice of hot and cold (poached egg was spot on)! Staff were very friendly and helpful. They asked if we needed maps and gave great advice for nearby attractions and restaurants. Wifi...

Close to buses, tram and train station. Hated to leave. Good restaurants and alternate eating choices nearby. Clean room, comfortable beds. Offered to store our luggage the last day so we were free to enjoy the last day. We plan to stay there again on our next trip.

Spacious, comfortable room in a convenient location. High ceilings in the room, roomy bathroom with heated towel racks and a four poster bed made the stay here very nice. The included breakfast was freshly made and served in a sunny room. The train station is nearby as are the tram lines for access to all areas of Edinburgh. Dining options...

I’ve spent almost a week in the Lairg Hotel, and it was a pleasant stay. Conveniently located in the New Town not far from the Old Town and Dean Village it features old-fashioned comfort and charm. I was lucky to stay at a spacious room with vintage furniture and a garden view. The hotel staff were genuinely friendly, ready to...

This was the first time I had ever gone to Scotland, so I wanted to make sure I got the weekend trip fully packed with plenty of things to do that were near the hotel. The hotel is right near Haymarket (one of the main railway stations in Edinburgh). This was great as it meant we didn't have to walk...

I have booked a single room here for couple of days, but there were some issues with the booking. The owners sorted the problem out quickly and effectively that I am really grateful for. I would like to be back!

This is a typical Edinburgh Georgian townhouse hotel, no lifts, big rooms and good, if basic accommodation. Our room was just off the reception, and was a bit noisy at certain times but peaceful when you needed it to be ( bedtime) It smelt just divine, not sure what they use to clean or scent the rooms but it was...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
