Hotel was booked and confirmation stated 'Standard Double Room'. We arrived a twin room, and told by reception that a standard room is a 'get what you're given' type. The beds themselves were incredibly disappointing. Very uncomfortable. Not to be mention being woke up several times throughout the night by some seriously loud bangs from the ceiling as if concrete...

Thank you for your review of your recent stay with us. Please accept my apologies for any confusion regarding your reservation. Room fantastic, location 50 meters from Playhouse. Breakfast not full English but adequate. Missed turn as car park is at the rear (through an old archway)where postcode takes you. Weatherspoons across the road "The Playfare" just up from theatre.

The location here is fantastic. Easy to get around wherever you'd like to go and a very good value. The property itself, room and breakfast and wifi, is just as you'd expect from a Holiday Inn Express

Basic room but fine for a city base for a weekend trip - not far from centre (Princes Street for shopping, Rose Street for bars). Tram line starts nearby too. Plenty of continental choice at breakfast but hot food limited. But good Weatherspoons across the road if you prefer a full Scottish breakfast.

Stayed here in late Jan with my partner for a post Christmas weekend away. Pleasantly surprised by the location and quality of the room. We were on the 6th floor and had good views of the city. The room has a sofa and bed which made it more pleasant to relax in on the afternoon pre dinner. The hotel offers...

This hotel is in the ideal location for access to public transport. Trams and buses run right past, and it is only a 10 minute walk to Waverly Station. Handy for shops and city centre attractions, and easy walking distance to Stockbridge. Also 2 mins walk to the stop for the bus that takes you to Edinburgh Zoo. Plenty of...

Just got back from 2 nights here and had a great time. The hotel far exceeded our expectations in terms of staying in a chain establishment. We arrived at 11am, check in not til 2pm but we were able to leave our luggage in a secure room. Same when we were leaving as we had a 3 hour wait between...

Stayed overnight here with the family. Great room - comfortable, clean and spacious with a view of the playhouse and omni centre. Bathroom was absolutely spotless. Staff were pleasant especially Samantha who was really nice and full of information. Breakfast was fine - kids enjoyed it - if they're happy - we are too! Would definitely stay here again.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
