Though the hotel was a bot overpriced for its level but thats supply and demand. Great location, very proffesional and friendly staff. Room is good- would have liked a power point by bed and not sure why hotels like having a complicated tap for shower which have to figure out. WIfi was strong and easy to connect to

Booked to stay last minute as pre booked accommodation was uninhabitable in my opinion. Anyway, arrived 15 minutes after booking online. Staff were fabulous and welcoming, couldn't do enough for us. Room was light and airy, clean with a tv, free Wi-Fi and breakfast on the house! You couldn't possibly want much more than what's on offer here for such...

We have stayed here twice now and have really enjoyed our stays. Excellent value for a city centre hotel and they do a triple room which some hotels can't offer. On our first stay our room was quite small and to the rear of the hotel but our most recent stay was a huge room at the front. Very clean...

Stayed at this hotel during a city break stay with our daughter. The hotel is centrally located to all attractions in Edinburgh. The room was very clean and well equipped and staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was buffet breakfast and ok. Cannot comment on parking as we travelled by train, would stay again.

Amazing price for a city centre hotel. Standards were high throughout with all areas immaculate and well maintained. The hotel accommodated our requests for a high floor room and we had wonderful views across Edinburgh. Breakfast was great - a good range of choices with four hot options included. We find holiday inn hotels to be very consistent and will...

We were on a bus tour and stayed the night. It was in a nice location, had a standard Holiday Inn Express room, decent internet, and a surprisingly great full English breakfast. Unfortunately they would not award me the points because I was on a tour, but I would stay again.

there are positives and negatives to this hotel but overall it isn't very good. We were staying here for a trip to see sister act across the road in the playhouse. it is in a very good location for theatre and many shops and bars. I will start with the positives, the wifi is free and very good quality. It...

A great hotel (apart from the creaky & noisy floorboards) in so many ways I suppose its best to get the bad point out the way first, we where allocated a room on the top floor(6th) from the minute you step out the lift until you reach your room the creaky floorboards really need some attention, even once you are...

Recently stayed here. The location of the hotel is great. Fairly central to the town. You get free breakfast which is average but still it's free so can't complain. However the rooms need to be updated the bed is barely sleep worth can feel the springs in the bed plus you move slightly and will bounce yourself or your partner...

Dear Timothy P, Thank you for your recent stay with us and reviewing our property. It is nice to hear you liked the fine location of our hotel in the area. Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
