Nice hotel and pleasant staff, and nice to be able to check in and choose my room beforehand as a Hilton Honors member. Good location, especially for the Usher Hall that night. Breakfast excellent too. Only downside was when my wife rang to ask for a shower cap, to be told they were only provided in deluxe rooms! The person...

Dear Muzzdobetter23, Thank you for choosing the hotel for your Edinburgh visit and for your loyalty to the brand. Although I am happy to read that your stay was an enjoyable one overall, I am disappointed to read that your request was lost in translation. I can confirm that shower caps are available on request for every guest and will...

We were looking for a hotel close to the Usher Hall and this was perfect - away from the noisy main road and with a sneaky view of the Castle. We were welcomed with warm cookies (chocolate & walnut - ??? a strange choice based on how common nut allergies are) but there was also complimentary fruit in reception. The...

I always try and stay at a Doubletree when I travel because I always know what I'm getting. Kind of like a Starbucks, generally they are all the same and their is some comfort in that. Teh rooms are clean, teh bathrooms are small unless you get lucky with an upgrade, the service is always solid. The Doubletree in City...

Dear trillium616, Thank you for your loyalty to the brand and your time in sharing your experience. I am glad that overall we fared well during your stay however would like to apologise that we did not know the name of the street at the end of the hotel nor did we handle tickets properly. I will feed this back...

There are far better places to stay. Slow service and poor quality. Not very clean and don't rush for breakfast Even after complaining no respect of issues raised. Now going to stay at another hotel. Watch out for the pubic hair. Good luck

Dear andykE1711DF, I am disappointed to read of your experience as we clearly got it wrong on many levels. As highlighted on your other review on another platform, I have credited your Hilton Honor account for 20,000 points as an apology and shared your review with the team as we fell well short of our usual high standards for which...

Although this hotel is in a decent place to use as your base for visiting Edinburgh none the less the hotel it's self is very average with some lovely qualities. The restaurant is a high point and is light and well laid out, perhaps because it can se seen from the street. During my visit no beers could be dispensed...

Dear John_Flynn_Fife, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of your stay with us. We visited in January and the staff were very friendly from check in to check out. Our son really enjoyed his stay, staff made children feel welcome especially the waiter who showed us to our table at breakfast. We are being bounded by our son to return. Great location for restaurant and castle views.

Leisure trip with some business. Hotel was very good in all aspects and cannot be faulted. The room was a bit noisy but this didn't stop sleep. The only problem was the shower curtain which was not very efficient and water was often all on the floor after a couple of showers. All other aspects of the stay and food...

This is a nice hotel, well within walking distance of sights of Edinburgh including the castle. We arrived on the Friday and the receptionist confirmed we had bed and breakfast, however seemed confused when we said we had dinner in with deal, fortunately we'd taken a screen shot of the booking confirmation, as being in reception we couldn't get wi-fi....

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
