This Hotel has a great location and a nice bar & restaurant. If I was reviewing the Bar and restaurant it would be a different review. However it is the Hotel I am reviewing. The reception is in the worst location I have ever seen for a Hotel of this type, having to walk through a busy bar and have...

It looks better on the website than it is in reality. I had two superior double rooms for one night. They were both quite small and dark. The bathroom in mine had mouldy sealant around the bath and a broken tap. Neither of the rooms had working telephones so we were unable to contact reception or room service. Reception was...

Had dinner in the bar which was packed and was lucky enough to get a table before the people who...

My husband and I spent a night here and loved the quirky theme of the hotel and the friendly welcome upon checking in. Our room was spacious, immaculate and quirky. We didn’t eat at the hotel but enjoyed the bar downstairs for drinks (particularly the cocktails) and the staff were very attentive and provided great service. The only negative was...

Arrived at this hotel having booked 'Superior Double', room only. Reception staff were very friendly and efficient. However, we got to our room (The Coulthard Room) and I was extremely dissappointed. The large bed (which I have to admit was very comfortable) took up most of the room. The TV was mounted on a 'half wall' and overhung the wardrobe...

My friend and I stayed here for a long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are really friendly and helpful, the bed was really comfy, the breakfast delicious, as was the restaurant (try the belly pork, it's divine). If you can, I'd recommend upgrading as our first room was small (and Alex Ferguson was looking down on us which...

We visited for two nights from 11th May. We arrived at the hotel before mid-day and were told we couldn't have the room until 3pm but they would put our bags in the room. This was hugely inconvenient as we were up at 5.30am on a flight from London and could have used this time to freshen up instead of...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
