We were thinking of spending a few days n Edinburgh but hadn't a clue where to stay, so we decided as we were arriving by train into Waverley station we would book in to somewhere local to the station. We booked the motel one- royal, as the reviews were good, and locality was close to the station, Princes street and...

Great Hotel right in the centre of things. Small, but well laid out rooms with everything you might need. travelled for Christmas markets and this hotel is right beside the main attractions. Edinburgh Dungeons, Ghost tours, Christmas Markets, The Castle and the tour buses are all on your doorstep. The reception staff are very helpful and are happy to answer...

Really convenient location, 5 minute walk from Edinburgh-Waverley train station. We were transiting for one night only so booked a cheap room with no view, but it was just what we were looking for -- close to the center of town, clean room, a good night's sleep. Surprisingly quiet for being next to the station. Room comes with hot water...

Great hotel. Good size room, comfy bed. Two single duvets. Powerful shower. Reasonably priced drinks in the bar. Pleasant helpful staff. Great chain! Stay every time we are in Edinburgh and will use in other Cities too.

We had a beautiful room with a view of Edinburgh. The front desk staff was friendly and answered all of our questions with a smile. We would stay here again for sure. Right across the street from train station.

Booked a night in this fairly new hotel to stay after a night out. Paid extra for a room with a view - right up Cockburn Street one way and across Waverley station to the Balmoral the other. £94 for a Friday night. Room was spacious and spotless. Low noise levels as was on the 6th floor. Staff on checking...

Back for a third time. Love the rooms and the good nights sleep. Check in staff very helpful and sorted my booking (my fault). Continental breakfast with a large selection choice, not bad coffee from a machine either. I like the small details, espresso cups, eggs that speak for themselves, pear drop hearts sweets at reception, good quality shower products...

Me and my partner visited Edinburgh and we were immediately impressed with this hotel. The hotel is situated in one of the most perfect locations for the city. Firstly, the hotel is located on the same road as the train station- 3 minute walk tops! The Royal Mile just 5 minutes and the Castle a maximum of 10 minutes !...

One of the new breed of European budget hotels, their Princes Street branch in Edinburgh is ideal for a short visit. Located opposite Waverley station and above the Apple Store, Motel One has a greet location, half way between the old and new towns and perfectly placed for restaurants, pubs (the Guildford Arms and Cafe Royal are next door), galleries...

I stayed there one night for work purposes. Perfect location. So central! It was maybe 1 min walk to Waverly station. But I still had a good night's sleep! Pretty colour theme. Staff were friendly. Definitely value for money! I never thought I'd get such a good/decent hotel to stay in central part of Edinburgh for such a great price!...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
