Our daughter and fiance had travelled up to stay on the Sunday night and we followed them up the next day. We had been upgraded to The Manor Suite because Emily told them it was our anniversary. WOW!!! What an amazing room. It was huge! Gorgeous bed, huge window with writing desk and deep red leather chair and a sofa...

Booked just one night with a Groupon deal, really helpful through the booking stage. Traditional, cosy hotel situated just a five minutes walk from city centre. Although we only booked via Groupon we were put into a suite which is a huge room with a nice modern bathroom. We arrived early hoping to just leave our bag but our room...

We spent two nights on a Groupon booked break, not expecting too much for the modest cost. Almost everything was more than fine, the only slight let down being the "continental" breakfast which was pretty basic. What's continental about Weetabix, cornflakes, hard boiled eggs and DIY toast? Did the job is all you could say. Everything else really great, lovely...

Many thanks for your review on your recent stay with us. I am pleased to hear that your overall stay with us was good and that our location was easy to get to the city centre. I am saddened to hear that you thought the continental breakfast was rather basic. A continental breakfast is a selection of cereal's, croissants/ pastries,...

This was my first visit to Edinburgh. To be honest I chose the hotel as it was on a Groupon deal and had good TA ratings. Very pleased with the choice. Hotel is really nice and close enough to the city centre to make easily walkable but at the same time in a nice quiet location. Staff were excellent and...

Great full breakfast and a very nice staff. Nice location near Princess street and Rose street. Close to Usher Hall and the Filmhouse which was of great value for us this time. The room was nice and the bathroom ok.

We had a two night stay at the thistle in October. Check in was brief and informal and the staff were great which left us with high hopes. You can get the tram from Princess street to "West End". The hotel is a 5 minute walk from there. You don't need cash the machines accept debit cards. Excellent Turkish restaurant not far from Haymarket(10 min walk from hotel) called Rodi (Google it)

I read some reviews that said the stairs were a bit of a hike. The room...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
