An evening of good food and cocktails kicked off well upon arrival at the Chester Residence. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Apartment was out of this world throughout. It had everything and more. Decor, stylish and chic. Great stay.

This was booked as a birthday weekend away for myself and my husband and we were totally delighted at the apartment and the excellent service we received. The concierge who showed us to our apartment - I think his name was Alastair - was extremely courteous and very helpful and this was a great first impression for what was to...

What can I say that hasn't been said? A wonderful apartment style hotel with excellent staff and perfectly appointed apartments. We were up graded to a 2 bedroom apartment.I can't think of a negative thing to say. Perfect.

Wonderful accommodations and terrific service. The apartment was tastefully done, and extremely comfy. The added plus was being in walking distance from a fun neighborhood full of good restaurants and fun shops. Highly recommend The Chester. I'd be happy to stay there again!

First of all, my friend and I were upgraded to a two bedroom apartment! We felt very safe. The location is in a quiet residential neighborhood about 15 minute stroll from the castle. A small grocery store and money exchange is a few blocks away. The staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. We loved our stay!

We stayed here for three nights earlier in the month. It was a luxurious treat, the residence and staff were excellent. There were a number of little touches which you just would not get if you were staying at a conventional hotel.

We rented 3 apartments for the weekend to celebrate my wife's 50th in Edinburgh with friends and family. We know Edinburgh quite well but had not been aware of the Chester previously. From the first greeting when we arrived we found everything to be of a superb standard and helped contribute to a perfect weekend. In order to keep the...

From the first minute you arrive your impression is of a first class hotel experience! The service couldn't be better and your made to feel like there most valued customer! Small touches like a free cocktail and canopies on the first night only help to heighten the experience, it's the little things that matter! Whatever your reason for your visit...

I booked a 1 night stay at this hotel as a surprise for my boyfriend's 30th Birthday. As soon as I made the booking, someone emailed me thanking me for my booking and offering support on making it a special experience. The workers were so friendly and welcoming and were always quick to help (they helped us choose a DVD...

This is a great hotel in a wonderful renovated townhouse. We had a truly spacious apartment on the ground floor with a fully equipped kitchen & luxury bathroom. The furnishings are really comfortable with a lovely 'real' gas fire. The staff were so friendly and everything I had booked as part of the birthday occasion package was top notch, especially...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

“As this is Georgian Edinburgh, the ceilings are hugely high - so this means long staircases. You might prefer a ground-level apartment.”
