We recently stayed in this property for one night as part of a Bank Holiday weekend tour of Scotland. The hotel is approximately a 20 minute walk from either train station (prepare for many stairs and steep ascents in general in Edinburgh!). Very close to Grassmarket and the Castle, the hotel is reasonably well located. Online check in meant we...

HOTEL’S FAVOURITE REVIEW
Reviewed 16 April 2017 via mobile

We enjoyed a fantastic 2 night stay over Easter weekend. The location of this hotel is fantastic but not noisy! 5/10 min walk to the Castle. Close enough to bars/shops but far enough not to hear the crowds. We enjoyed an executive room with a beautiful view of the castle. The room was very spacious, light and decorated nicely. The...

This hotel is adequately located near Grassmarket and a lovely 10 min walk to the Royal mile. The rooms are small. The bathroom is similar to that you would find in an airplane. The mattresses are adequate as is the water pressure and the front desk staff is helpful. The breakfast was good, although crowded. If you get a good...

First time staying at this hotel and I would recommend it for others to stay in. Great location, modern design with friendly helpful staff. Great breakfast and fantastic shower room. Clean and comfortable.

The toilet is in a closet without a place to wash your hands. Place to hang maybe 4 items. Oversize desk that takes up space that could have been better used to provide drawer space. No washcloths?! The bathroom has an oversize sink that could have been downsized to allow for counter space; basically your toiletries slide down into the...

Great hotel , we booked 3 rooms , all very clean and tidy . All staff were very helpful, we only had breakfast in the restaurant, but would definitely recommend . We really enjoyed the location of the hotel with many of the tourists sites like the Edinburgh castle with in easy walking distance.

We stayed stayed in the Novotel Centre for two nights last weekend for our first trip to Edinburgh. Even before arriving the customer service was excellent, I had the help from Sabrina to organise a bottle of prosecco and some desserts to be put in our room (for my boyfriends birthday) for when we arrived. They even put a card...

Really great hotel with friendly members of staff. The room was great with fantastic view of the castle and was very clean. The only constructive feedback I can make is that there were not enough plugs for charging phones. The hotel was in a good location and I would definitely recommend the breakfast and staying here. I would definitely stay...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
