Great location, well run hotel, got a room at the rear of the hotel, no view but very quiet which was good. Not sure what's going on but the rooftop restaurant is closed and you now eat in the basement, really miss those great views. All in all I would recommend this hotel

The staff were, without exception, polite, friendly and really helpful. When we arrived our room wasn't quite ready, so they gave us a free drink in the bar whilst we waited. We thought this was a really nice gesture and got our stay off to a great start. The room was spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable. The bathroom was spotless...

Took our grandson to visit Edinburgh and prepaid for our 3 day stay. We therefore didn't want the hassle of trying to get our money back etcetera. Bathroom floor was dirty. Mould on toilet tiles. Toilet flasher needed my husband's strength to flash. Wardrobe doors nearly falling off the hinges. Hand basin chipped. White bath towels filthy and off colour....

Very friendly staff, and good location in Edinburgh if you want to explore on foot and visit the local night life. However if you are planning a quiet family weekend away. I wouldn't recommend, lots of noise from a Wedding reception meant drunk revellers in the hotel until the early hours, next night - a sunday , drunk revellers outside...

Nice hotel. Stayed Tuesday to Friday with family. Room was very comfortable huge bed and large bathroom with bath and walk in shower. Close enough to all attractions. Plenty of cafes, bars etc close by. Comfortable room and friendly staff. Granddaughter loved the swimming pool and the wi fi!

Great location, very happy with our overall stay. Good bar and restaurant. The only downside to the room was no fridge/ minibar which would have been a nice touch to keep the complementary water nicely chilled.

Used the hotel as our base for sightseeing in Edinburgh for a special birthday for a family member. Excellent location. Very close to the castle and the Royal Mile. Plenty of places to eat and drink in the square outside the hotel. Full breakfast set us up nicely for the day. Might appear pricey at first glance but included as...

Great location and comfy enough. Best deal seemed to be buy in advance and book directly. Complimentary drink at the bar. Complimentary Elemis toileteries. Continental breakfast was tasty and sufficient enough to keep us fueled til late afternoon. The staff were all spot on. We couldn't work out the wi-fi and overall the bathroom we had seemed ready for an...

Whole room was great, bed was comfy. Tv very big and view of castle from the balcony was amazing. But the noise was a big issue. Had a terrible sleep. Noise from street and doors slamming nearby. Given earplugs for a reason. Didnt cover the noise.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
