Room looked out onto Grassmarket and the Castle. Room was very comfortable. Would recommend staying here as you get away from the bustle of Princes st etc. Good pubs etc just across the road. Breakfast too was very good .... yep would definitely stay here again Every member of staff we came into contact with were really nice and helpful.

High ratings reflect quality of establishment. Food menu might have been a bit more extensive but when served it was thoroughly enjoyable. The location on Grassmarket had wonderful view of the stunning castle with facility of good local pubs nearby. An ideal short break location

Comfortable hotel with obliging staff in very central location (which means the area can be quite noisy) although breakfast did not live up to expectations. £10 voucger to spend in hotel was provided after I booked on-line through the chain's own web-site.

Our visit was a little impromptu. We were not expecting to stay over but due to a family illness we needed somewhere to stay quickly. Having booked this hotel online using our smartphone we were in the room within 10 minutes. The room was spacious, well equipped and the bathroom had a walk in shower and separate bath. Free wifi... Stayed at the Apex Grassmarket Edinburgh for a weekend of 50th birthday celebrations. Location was good. Reception staff very helpful. Hotel has gym swimming pool etc but we didn't have time to use them so can not comment. Good choice of breakfast.

Booked Apex for a minimoon after our wedding in the lake district. Having only been to Edinburgh once, we were not quite sure of the location of our stay, but it was superb. Surrounded by shops bars and restaurants, we couldn't have asked for better. The castle was the view outside the hotel. Walking distance of the xmas markets and... More

We were very impressed with The Apex Hotel and it's friendly helpful staff. The hotel is in a great position for exploring Edinburgh. We were lucky enough to visit Edinburgh when all the Christmas lights and markets were happening. The European market was amazing. We would certainly return.

The room's value is not good as the price I paid. The location is quite nice. It's located on old town, very close the Edinburgh castle. Staff are friendly. But the room is a little noise at night. you can hear the noise outside of the room.

The hotel is quite close to the Edinburgh Castel and located near to the city centre (although there is an uphill and a downhill on the way). The rooms are new and the bathroom is spacious. The breakfast is very good either you have made the option for British or Continental on booking. It takes place on a restaurant that... More

Great location. First room given with castle view in first floor very noisy ... we moved to second. Staff very nice but hotel average for price. Lifts slow and need updating- one was out of action during our stay.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
