Stayed here for a few nights recently for a long weekend away. The hotel is perfectly adequate and the staff very friendly. The location is superb, a really easy walk to anywhere in Edinburgh. The pool, gym and "tropicarium" (sauna) are a real welcome at the end of a long day in the city. The hotel/room decor is slightly tired...

My wife and I visited Edinburgh for a couple of days to celebrate her birthday and decided on the Apex on a recommendation by a friend. The hotel is in a great location and within 15 minutes walking distance of Princes Street and the Royal Mile. We went to a concert at the Usher Hall which again was in easy...

Very good location and good service! Nice room and very nice pool. Sightseeing buss stop outside hotel. Rooms facing the street get a lot of noise, so if you want to sleep, choose a room against the back.

Lovely hotel, easy parking and the views were amazing! Reception was very helpful pointing us in the direction of tours and places to visit. We arrived early (four hours early) and they did all could to accommodate us.

Good location, opposite a choice of good value restaurants/pubs & an easy walk up into the Old Town. However the hotel is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems as there are steps up to reception, and again to the lifts, and down to the restaurant. We had no offer of assistance with our luggage from any staff.

We stayed here in April 2017 and the whole family enjoyed the hotel, pool and restaurant , on arrival the kids received an activity pack each and a rubber duck waiting for them in our room. Excellent view of castle from our room and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Would definitely return

Great position for exploring Old Town. Noisy rooms on the street. Grassmarket is busy until well into the early hours of the morning. Breakfast was good. Staff were helpful and welcoming. Parking on site.

The castle is in a fantastic location and a great place to stay to explore the Old Town. It is in easy walking distance to all attractions and great restaurants and shops. The kids loved the pool and the family suite was excellent with wonderful castle views. The only downside was that we were on the first floor over the...

Hotel in a great location for all attractions. The view from our room on 5th floor of castle was lovely. We didn't eat in hotel but loads of cafes and pubs nearby. The room was clean but looked a little tired.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
