Gerald is a great and kind person. Our 3 nights stay was just perfect. Gerald cooked for us every morning a fresh breakfast. Old town is about 5-10 min walking distance. It's a quiet place but really close to the centre. The tram station is about 5 min away which is also great when you come from the airport, Gerald's...

Gerald's Place is located conveniently to the old town and great restaurants. This B&B is on a quiet street across the street from a green area. There are two rooms in its own section of the house, so very private. Gerald is wonderful host that gave us terrific advise on restaurants, sites to visit, driving directions out of Edinburgh, and...

This is long overdue and probably will not do justice to the experience of staying at Gerald's home. We were greeted by Gerald and given a run down of the space and general "rules". A binder provided had restaurants and sites to see and Gerald could speak to pretty much every entry. We ate at a Thai place that was...

We had the great fortune to stay at Gerald’s Place for eight nights. Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
