In short, I love this hotel. This property is unique and truly maintains a 5-star standard. The exterior design of the hotel building is gorgeous. Speaking of service, I had been treated as a valued guest since I stepped into the property. Every staff I encountered were polite and well-trained. I stayed in a spacious, modern and stylish studio which...

This is a beautiful hotel and we really enjoyed our stay. Room was lovely but they have the noisiest toilets I have ever heard 😱. We faced onto the lovely roof top garden and although there was a wedding on as well there was not a lot of noise. Breakfast (£14.50 for a full Scottish) was large but I think...

Upon arrival we were told we had been upgraded to a garden room. when we were being shown to our room we were informed we were close to the bar. In actual fact our room opened into the bar ! We could hear everything int the bar from our room,...

My husband and I booked the glasshouse for my 30th birthday we booked the executive room to have enough space to accommodate my sons cot. I booked the room over the phone as I wanted to request a balcony and I spoke with the in house reservation team. I was greeted by a lovely lady I think her name was...

The combination of old and new is striking - behind the facade of the Old Lady Glenorchy Church stands a modern building of glass and steel. Upon entering the lobby your senses are hit with scented oils - A sensuous and tantalizing blend that instantly makes you feel calm and relax. The layout of our suite was original, spacious and...

The Glasshouse Hotel is centrally located in Edinburgh for exploring both the old medieval town and the New Town. It is fronted by an old stone building front but the hotel itself is contemporary. It has a weird layout as it's integrated into a larger complex but you don't realize that from the inside. The lobby is not much, but...

We stayed here for two nights as part of our honeymoon! We arrived early and although we weren't able to check in (expected) they were able to go through all the paperwork with us, offered to arrange our luggage to be in our room when we returned & amazingly, upgraded us to one of the suites!! Beautiful large room with...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
