Generally great-the location is fantastic and the old town is a wonderful place to be. The staff (Derek) were quite pleasant. Keep in mind that the place is a bit old. The floor creaks and the furniture is a bit hard. Do not plop onto the couch! Also, the shower is a bit difficult to get in and out of...

My husband and I and our three children stayed at the Castle Terrace apartment for 3 nights end of May/beginning of June. This apartment is really a 2 floor townhouse with 4 huge rooms and a beautiful view of the castle. Derek was wonderful and very helpful at check-in. There is a grocery store right around the corner and the...

We stayed at Parliament Square for 3 nights. We were a bit apprehensive as we read the Tenko review before we left and we were too late to cancel our booking. We met Derek at the apartment and he showed us in and we were pleasantly surprised. Our first impressions was that it's a beautiful little apartment. The apartment is...

Had a great stayi the apartment. Staff were very polite and friendly. The apartment was spotlessly clean and in a fantastic location for our requirements. Would definitely stay again and would recommend without hesitation.

We stayed at Johnston Terrace apartment for two nights. The apartment was huge, decently decorated and well equipped with everything we need. The check in procedures was hassle free as the owner/arranger waited us at the apartment itself and showed us around. The apartment was well located just next to the castle, within 5 minutes walk. The view from the...

Having previously stayed at an apartment in Castle Terrace I had no hesitation in booking to stay at Greyfriars apartments last week. 1 Parliament Square - Great location and well equipped accommodation, though not to the same standard as the Castle Terrace apartment. Apartment was on the 4th floor - which for me was no problem, but for my sister...

Great location on the Royal Mile directly across from St Giles Cathedral. Beautifullly elegant apartment! Only stayed 3 nights (2adults & 2 teenagers) but loved the quality furnishings and bedding, high ceilings and enormous sash windows of this fantastic historical building.

We stayed in the apartment in Castle terrace for 2 nights during a weekend. We meet the owner who gave us the keys and showed us the apartment. Very well equipped, with a large kitchen and living room at the ground floor and 2 rooms with 2 bathroom at the 1st floor (bathroom towels, pots, cups, dishes, cutlery, washing machine,...

We had a wonderful weekend staying at the Greyfriar Apartment, 1/3 Parliament Square. The 2 bedrooms were lovely with quality bedding and lighting. The apartment was beautifully decorated, everything you need was there. We, 3 females, believe it is the best location in Edinburgh as when eating breakfast we sat at the window and saw the hustle and bustle of...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

“I think there are two flats from Greyfriars in this building. I can only speak to the 2 bedroom, 2 bath. It was absolutely outstanding. Definitely recommend.”

“These are self catering apartments, so are not a hotel per se.But if you are only a couple and in the 2 bedroom apartment, sleep in the front room near the side of the castle - the back rooms overlooking the market are even louder...but the double glazing helps a lot - but needs to be shut to work!!”
