I really don't understand how this hotel has been slatered... We arrived on Friday pretty lateish and was given a room on the ground floor this room looked brand new very clean and very modern.. The only downside was that it did not have a window and been very close ophthalmic I could not stay there but this was no... More

Possibly the worst hotel in edinburgh! I would never ever recommend anyone to stay here or stay here again. Approaching the hotel it looked a bit run down, dated and shabby cigarette butts littered the ground outside the reception area and generally didn't look very inviting at all. We were checked in by a semi friendly young lady, with no... More

I was with 6 friends. When we booked in we were fairly spread out from each other 2 were on the first floor, another 2 on the 2nd floor and the last 2 were on the 5th floor. The hotel would have known we are together with the booking but they put us well away from each other. We are... More

We arrived at 11am and although checkin wasn't until 3pm we asked if we could check in early or leave our bags there, we had a cold reception and was told we would not be allowed into the hotel until 3pm, this would have been fine if the staff knew how to talk to customers! Arrived at our room, should... More

My daughter and I were put into this hotel as part of a coach trip to Edinburgh Zoo and we stayed one night, 27th May. The room was basic and reasonably clean, although I did forgo the shower as it was in a bit of a state. The hotel is pretty large and when it came to the evening meal... More

From the outside the hotel looks as though it might be a nice big old building situated beside a river. As we approached the entrance which is sort of at the back of the hotel we were "greeted" by all the smokers accumulated around the door. We walked inside and 3 very young people were behind the counter...none greeted us... More

We stayed in this hotel for 3 night at the beginning of June. The reception's girl was not so friendly and indicate us our rooms with very few words. The room wasn't so clean and it featured a basic furniture. The window was partial blocked, since it overlooked on a roof and on the roof were a lot of empty... More

This hotel has some bad reviews which it doesn't deserve. We found all the staff friendly and helpful so unless they have replaced all the staff where were all the rude ones perhaps the attitude of the complainers has something to do with it. The room we had was perfectly clean,a good size and had a lovely veiw over the... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
