Just spent two nights at The Place on an Itison deal. A superior room which was spacious, clean and afforded a wonderful vista over North Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth and Fife. We had a delicious breakfast (yes, no bacon - but get over it, there are plenty of other things to eat and the reason for its absence must...

This hotel is lovely, nice and clean, small rooms but great views. Beware tho if your on the top floor, its a lot of steps to get up if ur not that able, there is no lift. Bar is great and the sitting room is good, all in all a good hotel, close to city centre and shopping, no parking...

Not badly situated, near Princes St etc and room was a good size. Staff were friendly too. But ... average breakfast, poor wifi, no real atmosphere. Can't really say anything bad about it but left me indifferent. Have stayed in better hotels in Edinburgh for the money.

Nice stylish hotel. Our room at the very top of the hotel was a little bit small but nicely equipped with fab views. Good breakfast. Excellently located right opposite the tram terminus for the airport. Easy 5 min walk to Princes Street.

I never normally leave any reviews for restaurants etc.... however, my girlfriend and I booked for Afternoon tea at 3.30pm today, and were looking forward to a nice afternoon. Firstly the bar staff couldn't find our booking even after my girlfriend showing confirmation and either way it was extremely quiet so booking would not have been a necessity nonetheless. Secondly...

My wife and I stayed on the 10th January and we got a deal which was overnight stay with £20 each voucher towards dinner, a bottle of wine and breakfast. We had been to the hotel many times for drinks and were impressed, so we were really looking forward to our stay, thinking it would be of the same standard....

Recently stayed on DB and B deal. We really enjoyed our night, food was very good and staff were very friendly. We would definitely return due to its central location as well. However there was problems with meals in dining room but not with our own. Pleasant hotel with nice staff.

After reading some of the reviews on here I was a bit worried but I have to say we had a fab time!! Lovely hotel, amazing food & decor. Very clean! Yes there are a few things that would make it better but nothing that bad that I would complain about. At check in we were not shown or told...

Hello c-jdeavin Thanks for reviewing the hotel. We are constantly striving to keep our staff service presentation as good and as informative as it can be. We fell a little short on one or two little points this time but otherwise your stay experience seems to have been a positive one. Breakfast buffet or plated service is generally decided when...

Staying here for a night before catching a flight tomorrow and it's a great location just down the street from the Playhouse and walking distance (5-10 minutes) from Waverley Station. It would have gotten five stars but there is no lift and a good few flights of stairs if you're on second or third floor. Not suitable for everyone for...

We stayed here last night as we were in Edinburgh for the hogmanay celebrations. Our room was tiny and at the very top floor. The toilet / shower room was also tiny, the shower was like a dribble and the toilet wasn't clean. As we were only there for one night we never said anything to staff but im really...

Hi Jordan A Thanks for your review. I am sorry that the room allocated was not to your liking. Certainly if the toilet wasn't clean you should have reported that at the time and we would have addressed that for you. I have passed this on the housekeeping team as this clearly isn't something we'd like to become known for....

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
