A very nice stay! Arrived at Waverley railway station to be met by Peter from the hotel Who carried our case up to the Balmoral, a nice touch and very helpfull as I am recovering from a recent operation. Our room not ready, however we were taken into lounge for a complimentary drink, very good service. The room was very... More

Attended for work Christmas meal. Requested vegetarian option. Was asked by staff to have the vegan option as there was a vegan at the table. For a starter I was served melon. For the Main- 2 potatoes and 4 sprouts. Dessert-melon (same as the starter). Outrageously poor. I noted that those having the full Christmas dinner were served just Turkey... More

I had a lovely 3 night stay at the Balmoral. The staff made me feel very welcome and looked after me with great courtesy. The room (complimentary upgrade) was lovely, the bed very comfortable. The spa facilities were great and the meal I had in Hadrian's Restaurant was excellent. Really enjoyed my visit.

A beautiful hotel, and ideally located for those that like to walk. Multiple routes to the Royal Mile, shopping to the NW, theatres to the east, and a healthy walk down to Leith (the port). Concierge also did a great job getting us last minute tickets to Van Morrison, and great great seats. The only place to stay in Edinburgh

The staff is average at best. Not the Scottish hospitality I came to know. Concierge seemed annoyed by questions. Very over priced. Room is very small for a "Suite". The restaurant was very good. Last stay there.

This is a superb hotel, in a great position above Waverley station. Comfortable, beautifully maintained with a friendly, efficient staff. Our executive room had very comfortable beds and a calm decor. The marble bathroom with quirky James Bond monochrome photos had everything we needed, luxury Forte shampoo, conditioner etc. Lots of super sized fluffy towels, dressing gowns and chic striped... We stayed as a birthday and anniversary treat - looked at lots of different hotels but I'm so pleased we decided upon this one. From the moment you are outside the hotel until the moment you leave the staff are fantastic. We had a beautiful room and the little extra touches were second to none. After returning from an evening... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
