I loved this hotel! It was in a great location and the staff was so nice. Everything was extremely clean. The room was fairly large compared to other European hotels that I have visited. The breakfast was amazing; definitely the best free breakfast that I have ever had! I loved the antique-looking furniture (I don't know if they were really...

Location is perfect - you can walk to many sites easily and the view of the castle is fabulous. The hotel is quirky (in a good way) and charming and every member of the staff was friendly and attentive. Room was great - we had an amazing view of the castle. Breakfast at Huxley's each morning was a terrific way...

The best hotel i have stayed in to date, Staff were very welcoming and happy to help with any questions, The little added extras in the room, like the tassimo coffee machine and selection of magazines really made it outstanding.

We stayed for one night in transit but wished we had been able to stay longer. The room was huge and very modern. The staff were generally helpful. You will have some stairs to climb with your bags to get to the lift. The restaurant is in the pub under the hotel and is where you have breakfast. The food...

We picked The Rutland as our base for a 3 night Easter break on our first visit to Edinburgh. The purpose of our trip up North was to eat good food (which we did) and to see the Pandas (which we didn't - one was missing, the other asleep). The Rutland is in a fantastic location at the end of...

We had to write as the staff and accommodation were perfect. My wife and I stayed in apartment 19 with our three children, and had a wonderful stay. The beds are made for you, the apartment is stylish, spotlessly clean, has tv, wifi, wii, nespresso and is ideally located just by the top end of princess street by the castle....

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
