I felt very comfortable in this hostel. Cute place, clean facilities, nice and helpful staff and good location. An extra shower or two would be good but it's quite small so understandable. Having the kitchen was very handy! They also stored my luggage for 3 days while I went on a tour which was excellent!

I was impressed by this hostel. The location is perfect for spending time on the Royal Mile and doing local walking tours. It's also close to a variety of restaurants and shops along with a grocery store. The hostel itself was clean and cozy, those who work there are extremely nice and helpful.

I'm a regular guest here on this hostel, been coming back and I think already spent more than £600 (for staying for more than 1 month here) in different dates. But, somehow the staff here (Lisa) who is unfortunately the Assistant Manager here, is very rude and made me felt uncomfortable during my last stay here. As a regular guest...

Hi there, sorry you felt so offended by Lisa's reaction and completely changed your mind about our wee hostel. As a regular guest you came and stayed 11 times with us, altogether for 17 nights over 2 months, and you told us many times you loved the place. You also wrote a very nice first review on 14th April about...

I stayed there four nights and i've been very happy with my stay. The room was clean and comfortable ( i slept so well !!), the staff was nice, the kitchen really welcoming... The only low was that it was difficult to bond with the people staying here long terme, who were the main group in the common areas. Other...

Hi there, thanks for your nice review - glad you had a good time with us. I think you're referring to our live-in staff - sorry you found them a bit intimidating. I think it was also the days when we had quite a lot of returning customers in who had bonded with our staff so that would have been...

Firstly the positives, the location was excellent within walking distance of everything I wanted to see, the kitchen was well equipped and the bedrooms were a good size with lockers provided with key deposit. Now the negatives... The hostel wasn't cleaned properly in the few nights I stayed there, after getting food poisoning and throwing up in the toilets the...

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to write about our hostel. I'm a bit surprised to read some of the things though. Our bathrooms get cleaned properly from top to bottom twice a day and checked regularly in between - so I really don't know how the smell of your vomit could linger for a few days. Also -...

This hostel is located just around the corner of Edinburgh Waverly train station and is on the royal mile which is a highly popular street in Edinburgh. With shops, restaurants all around it's a prime location. There is free tea and coffee and the staff is incredibly friendly. The rooms have charming names and the beds are very comfy and...

Hi there, thanks for the lovely words - glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Hope to see you again some day!

The people that work here are so nice & helpful. The hostel is very cute, each room is themed & each bed goes with the theme. It could be cleaner but was clean!! (It's a hostel, not a hotel so it's expected!) Definitely recommend for budget travelers & students. It's right on the Royal mile & close to everything.

This backpackers hostel is one branch of a business operating two other hostels in Edinburgh (Castle Rock Hostel and close-by High Street Hostel) as well as a few others elsewhere in Scotland. All three Edinburgh hostels show praiseworthy consistency in policies and furnishings. Royal Mile Backpackers is the by far the smallest of the three, being no more than a...

When booking a hostel it's important to not expect much of the facilities and this one is no different. Areas are clean and tidy though the kitchen and communal areas are small but it's the staff and the guests that make this place worth every stay. As a solo traveller I enjoy meeting people from around the world and spending...

This place was really reasonably priced. It wasn't as small and cozy as advertised but that is a good thing. There are a few long-termers living there and they were really nice. There was a fire place which is on every night, and 2 newspaper publications provided. The bathroom has no plugs but you can borrow a hair dryer and...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
