Staff are really friendly and can't do enough for you. Offered us tea and biscuits when we arrived early for our stay. Room was beautiful, very comfortable and immaculate. Would recommend it for a relaxing break

I stumbled across this place on TripAdvisor as my previous Edinburgh hotel was fully booked - result!! I can't say enough good things about this hotel, my only complaint being that I can't move in!! The building is beautiful, and I mean stunningly beautiful in that stately fashion the Georgians did so well. It's in a very elegant terrace up...

This hotel is chic and stylish. The decor and art collection are stunning. We had a room and both apartments and they could not have been more comfortable. A mile from Waverley station it is an ideal setting for exploring the city. The hotel does not have a lift as it is a protected building so be fit for the...

My hotel of choice in Edinburgh, the service is impeccable, the staff members are lovely, nothing is too much trouble. The hotel has recently celebrated its first anniversary and clearly proud of the achievements, they should be. Beautiful rooms with everything you need, a good bar, fantastic whisky menu. The breakfast is top drawer. Occupancy is very high so planning...

This is a small boutique hotel that is simply superb! Not only the room (we stayed in room 10) was gorgeous, pristine and full of details, but the staff was always ultra friendly and helpful. The bar in the 1st floor was very nice and we spend there hours talking to the barman about what to do in Edinburgh and...

I have divided the review into some sections in order to facilitate reading. I do not give away a "5" easily, but it is justfied here. Stay I stayed for three nights in a single room (no 4). Room The single room was very small but at the same time cozy. I was amazed that it contained all necessary items...

4 nights in the beginning of October, my wife and I. Friendly and positive staff, always asking if there is ayything they can do for you. Good price. Just 5 min walk from everything. Very fine paintings in hall and stairway. Spectacular illuminating of the hall in the evening made the artwork special. We highly recommend this hotel.

My partner & I went to the 24 Royal terrace for only night last weekend but we had a fantastic time! We got given room no 1 which it's an apartment room, it was so beautiful and spacious! We were only a very short walk away from the main city attractions. Can't wait to go back!

Just read a review on here with only 2 stars..... Madness!!! The hotel is on a lovely street, looks really posh and pretty. The hotel is only ten minutes walk into the...

We stayed in room 6 for the weekend. It was very noisy with all the street traffic and the people yelling at 5:18AM in the room next door. Supposedly no one had every complained before. Also no one at front desk most of the time so hard to get local recommendations or deal with issues like the fact they didn't...

Dear Reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay. It is disheartening to learn that you did not enjoy your stay - we do receive fantastic feedback the majority of the time. Given that Royal Terrace is a cobbled street it does mean that when drivers are exceeding the speed limit it can be...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
24 Royal Terrace is a new hotel on one of Edinburgh’s most iconic Georgian terraces. Designed by the famous architect William Playfair in the 1820s, the 16-bedroom hotel retains the original architectural features of the building whilst introducing a bold contemporary interior design. Situated in close proximity to the town centre, the hotel backs onto the Royal Gardens of Holyrood Palace and Calton Hill with commanding views across to the Firth of Forth. All rooms offer beautiful views, either of the hotel’s garden or onto the majestic Royal Terrace itself. Suited to both business and leisure guests, the rooms vary from spacious apartment suites to affordable single rooms. Our elegant rooms are designed for comfort and relaxation with stylish contemporary fabrics, heavenly beds, White Company toiletries, plump white towels and Egyptian cotton sheets. Mixing the old with the new, the suites comprise antique furniture with modern touches. Some rooms feature cast iron baths in the bedroom, whilst others have rain showers in the bathroom. All bedrooms offer wireless and wired internet connection to ensure guests can tap into our high speed internet, have Samsung Smart TVs fitted with amplified Soundbars and Apple Airport Express, enabling guests to stream audio and video from their own devices or from their NetFlix accounts, plus USB power sockets for charging devices. The entertainment isn’t limited to the bedroom; in the en-suite bathrooms, guests can control their music from a keypad to play over high quality Blucube speakers. The hotel features a private, original art collection including works by Scottish artists John Bellany, Peter Howson, Steven Campbell, Henry Kondracki and John Bratby. 24 Royal Terrace’s facilities include rt’s bar, a stylish meeting point for guests serving a carefully selected menu, from Scottish and continental breakfast in the morning, to tapas in the evening. A champagne afternoon tea is also on offer at rt’s between 2 and 5pm daily. rt’s serves a fine range of whiskies, playing to Royal Terrace’s historical nickname, ‘Whisky Row’, a reference to the number of spirit merchants who lived on the terrace when it was newly built. ... more   less
