Everything about our stay was perfect. The room was really stylish, the practicality of a beautiful shower room with the added indulgence of a free standing bath in the bedroom. The soft furnishings were luxurious which added to the indulgence of the whole interior design. The whole hotel followed a similar style with a quirky private art collection displayed all...

I have to tell you, when I first entered my room, there was a moment of stunned silence. I could tell that nobody had expected SUCH a lavish room. The ceiling height is worthy of palaces, stretching to almost 16 feet in the air. There were two massive tall windows on one side, overlooking views of the road and the...

We loved 24 Royal Terrace. We are more of a chain hotel type of couple/family, so booking a boutique hotel was a bit off piste for us. But we loved it. The staff were so friendly, the room was lovely, the cocktails were delicious and a great location for exploring. Fantastic whisky collection, hopefully on my next visit I'll get...

Loved this place! Beautiful furnishings in this Edinburgh town home style hotel, on a beautiful street with Regents Park in front and park like setting in the back. Probably a 15 minute walk to the Royal Mile, which I loved. The breakfast options were great. Reasonable and delicious. We loved enjoying a cocktail at the end of the day in...

I recently finished 2 hikes, of about 100 miles each, in Scotland. The first involved sleeping in bothies and my tent; miles of bog and rain, one set of clothes, no hot water etc. Toward the end of the second I was outside Edinburgh one night, feeling pretty beat, and decided enough was enough I'd get a bed and hot...

The staff make this place a great experience. Breakfast ranges from a very economical continental fare to a full Scottish breakfast which is reasonably priced, but a bit more. Over a five night stay we were assisted with cabs, sending out laundry after running out of clean clothes three weeks into our trip, suggesting restaurants that were very good and...

Stayed here for my boyfriend birthday last weekend. Hotel was amazing!! The staff were all so friendly and helpful, offering to carry bags and escorting us up to our room. Room was gorgeous! Bed was massive and so comfy, bathroom was beautiful also. Had a large shower and all the amenities you need - cotton pads/buds, tooth picks, shampoo, body...

The staff of the hotel were all very friendly! The room was wonderful we even had a couch in it. Love how much art is around, collected by the owner. The breakfasts are very filling and the pastries and bread are baked fresh every morning. The aroma in the early morning is divine ( yes, we could smell it acutely...

Recently stayed here and was really impressed by the decor, location, staff, and comfort. The room was huge and faced a beautiful garden. The bar has a fantastic whiskey selection and we even learned a bit more about the proper way to taste! Bed was super comfy, and all the little amenities were available in room. Staff were very pleasant...

Three of us stayed at 24 Royal Terrace and were very impressed with all aspects of the hotel. The rooms were large and roomy. The staff were very attentive and helpful while remaining very professional. The breakfasts were genuinely superb and fantastic value for money. If you stay here you'd be mad not to have the breakfast. Finally the location...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
24 Royal Terrace is a new hotel on one of Edinburgh’s most iconic Georgian terraces. Designed by the famous architect William Playfair in the 1820s, the 16-bedroom hotel retains the original architectural features of the building whilst introducing a bold contemporary interior design. Situated in close proximity to the town centre, the hotel backs onto the Royal Gardens of Holyrood Palace and Calton Hill with commanding views across to the Firth of Forth. All rooms offer beautiful views, either of the hotel’s garden or onto the majestic Royal Terrace itself. Suited to both business and leisure guests, the rooms vary from spacious apartment suites to affordable single rooms. Our elegant rooms are designed for comfort and relaxation with stylish contemporary fabrics, heavenly beds, White Company toiletries, plump white towels and Egyptian cotton sheets. Mixing the old with the new, the suites comprise antique furniture with modern touches. Some rooms feature cast iron baths in the bedroom, whilst others have rain showers in the bathroom. All bedrooms offer wireless and wired internet connection to ensure guests can tap into our high speed internet, have Samsung Smart TVs fitted with amplified Soundbars and Apple Airport Express, enabling guests to stream audio and video from their own devices or from their NetFlix accounts, plus USB power sockets for charging devices. The entertainment isn’t limited to the bedroom; in the en-suite bathrooms, guests can control their music from a keypad to play over high quality Blucube speakers. The hotel features a private, original art collection including works by Scottish artists John Bellany, Peter Howson, Steven Campbell, Henry Kondracki and John Bratby. 24 Royal Terrace’s facilities include rt’s bar, a stylish meeting point for guests serving a carefully selected menu, from Scottish and continental breakfast in the morning, to tapas in the evening. A champagne afternoon tea is also on offer at rt’s between 2 and 5pm daily. rt’s serves a fine range of whiskies, playing to Royal Terrace’s historical nickname, ‘Whisky Row’, a reference to the number of spirit merchants who lived on the terrace when it was newly built. ... more   less
