I felt compelled to comment on my recent stay at the George Hotel. It was quite simply sublime. Having stayed at various hotels worldwide the George excelled others in terms of service, location and overall experience. I shall be returning later this month and look forward to another fantastic break.

I had to travel to Edinburgh for some business meetings and decided to take my granny and my dogs with me (a teacup poodle and a miniature poodle). The staff of the hotel was absolutely lovely. Although the check in is at 11, they accepted our early check in at 8, and they brought us breakfast to our room! The... More

The staff was really good. The Hotel is quite classy and stylish but it is situated in a very quiet neighborhood. If someone fancies a downtown city center like ambience then that is definitely not there. But room is comfortable, clean and hotel is quite elegant to stay

We really enjoyed a very comfortable and pleasant stay here in Edinburgh. The location was fantastic for the great shops and restaurants on george street. From the moment we walked through the door the service was impeccable. The styling was great and the room was very comfortable. We booked a deluxe double which wasn't amazingly spacious but perfectly adequate. Very... More

First impressions of The George (as was) were very positive. Lovely reception, welcoming staff and a stylish (if somewhat small) room. The room itself was well designed, lots of comfy pillows, great to have a 'tuck box' of treats and fresh milk for tea and coffee. But, and it's a big but, the hotel was let down by poor service... I booked this hotel for an old boys black tie school reunion dinner. Great location and very central. Their attention to detail was excellent and they even helped track down a keyboard for the evening. The food and wine was delicious at a very reasonable price. I can't recommend them enough.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
