We had breakfast at the Inn on the Mile. Truly a perfect location in the old town of Edinburgh and good quality food. The interior looks really cool and had a classic Scottish vibe. We will definitely visit the Inn on the Mile again.

Just love this pub! Been visiting here for past three years. Great beer and whisky selection. Really good location. Limited outdoor seating but loads of space indoors and great bar area. We had lunch here for the first time which was really good. Stroll on Christmas!!

We chose this hotel mainly for its location, but we were happy with the room, the service and the food, and would definitely stay here again (love the online discounts when you book directly with them, as well). Our ‘Royal Mile’ bedroom was a stylish combination of original features, such as the high ceilings, sash windows and ornate cornices, and...

Hi Bontaks, Thank you so much for taking the time to review your recent stay with us and we are so happy you enjoyed your room and its little touches and features. Unfortunately due to the building being listed A we are not able to install a lift but like you've said it suits the building and gets you ready...

There 3 nights, in May. Heritage building (old bank). Reception in street level bar. Stayed in Room 9 on 3rd floor. No lift, so pack light. After you get your bag up, the first time, you get used to the stairs. I had asked for an upper-level room because of previous TA reviewers re street noise .. however .. there...

Good afternoon Schiltron, Firstly, I’m really disappointed to hear that you didn’t enjoy your stay with us. Our hotel is unique in its heritage, location and is in no way a purpose build hotel, this appeals to a vast amount of our welcomed guests but I’m sorry this didn’t appeal to you. Stayed here for five nights. The room was outstanding. The location outstanding. The staff wonderful. G was great -- gave us lots of pointers and made us feel very special. If you like to be in the action this place is it. Although there is a busy bar/restaurant on the ground floor, we could not hear a thing from our...

We traveled to Edinburgh as two couples for two nights. The hotel is well located. New rooms are well appointed. Walking distance to all top sights. Helpful staff. Breakfast at 10 Euros was a good value.

Ok, I have to start with the location; simply put- AMAZING! The Royal Mile is basically Main Street in the historical district and is loaded with shops, pubs, street acts, tour guides, musicians, historical sites, the Mile even walks you straight up to the famous castle and is not far from the train station. It's the perfect central location. I...

The place is so perfect for seeing Edinburgh's tourist attractions! The building sits there smack in the middle of everything. The setup is unique, you walk into the building and find yourself in a cool looking pub. If you are looking for a non-traditional hotel this is the place for you. You check in right by the door in what...

You really can't beat the location, room, and breakfast. You are right on the royal mile. The room was really nice. Also a bar is available on the first floor. We visited this great bar and Restaurant for what was supposed to be a quick pint and ended up having a feed as well. Service was excellent With great quality food at a reasonable price. Wish we could have tried out their accomodation but they were booked well in advance. Highly recommend if you are in this lovely city

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
