On first impressions it's a really nice place. I like the decor, all quite classy. But on closer inspection everything is done to a really poor standard. The tap in the bathroom is loose, hard to turn on as it just twists. The floor in the bedroom must not be level as everything is squint, the bed, the table, the...

Overnight stay which included afternoon tea, a bottle of prosecco, breakfast and late checkout. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room wasn't ready on arrival, we were happy to hear we got upgraded to a superior room. Slightly disappointed that meant 2 single beds pushed together, didn't find them very comfortable. The afternoon tea was nice, scones were warm...

For Christmas our children purchased a night at this hotel as a present for my husband and myself through Secret Escapes. We were in Room 114. The first thing I had to do was dust the bedside lamp, it took seconds, so why the cleaner had missed it I don't know. I checked the bed linen, it was clean, but...

One night stay in Brooks BnB. Small cosy and very good value for money! Afternoon tea served just after arrival. Prosecco in the bedroom and eggs benedict for breakfast all in included in a very reasonably priced offer. Worth a visit!

We spent a couple of nights at Brooks and we were quite happy about its location. The hotel is in a walking distance from the centre and not far from the airport. The decor is absolutely beautiful and very quirky (even the lift is the one and only!). Breakfast is the best and highly recommend, especially the full Scottish with...

Although the hotel is out a bit from the centre of the city, it was ideal. On arrival the room wasn't ready, but as we were early this was not a problem.mwe were asked if we would like to leave our case at reception. Then we went into the sitting room, and found the "honesty bar". We were given our...

We came courtesy of Secret Escapes who usually provide a good class of hotel but we're disappointed in this one. A mixture of tatty old and new. Pros Good size bed that was clean Excellent breakfast Good location - short bus ride to town £1.60 each Honesty bar if needed Lift Cons Light bulb missing in lamp* Light not working...

We had a couple of nights at Brooks and we're so impressed. The decor is beautiful- any lover of interiors will appreciate the wallpapers and muted colour schemes as well as the quirky details. Our room was comfortable and quiet! Breakfast was the best I've had and I recommend especially the full Scottish which, far from the greasy heart attack...

My mum booked this hotel for my birthday as a treat for us both. On arrival I found that the hotel was very well presented, with beautiful calming décor all round. When we got to our room the maintenance man was still fixing something but he was very pleasant & this wasn't an issue for us. I work in a...

This is an okay place if your visit to Edinburgh is a short stay. Easy to get to from Haymarket train station. Room was a nice size but for this to happen bathroom was a little too bijou! Not a great breakfast, and had to request a glass to have the juice. We were lucky another couple were told to...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
