We found this hotel online and were pleasantly surprised by how lovely it was. The location was perfect for accessing everything in Edinburgh by foot or by bus. Being on the Grassmarket allowed for a lot of great eating places and so convenient. Breakfast at the hotel was great and a good way to start our day. We had a...

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to post a review on our hotel and I am really pleased to hear that you enjoyed your view of the Castle and the fireworks, we are very lucky to wake up to it every day. I do take onboard your comments about the lack of air conditioning and hopefully this is...

We stayed for 2 nights for the tattoo. Cudnt fault check in service. Was quick and easy and all done with a smile. Room had a side view of street so was slightly quieter during the night. Breakfast was fab with lots of choice and if pre paid included all choices...I took advantage of this and had salmon and scrambled...

I made a last minute booking to go the the fringe 23-24 Aug. I did expect the price of the hotel I booked to be a touch expensive and the Apex one was £130 per night. However, I wanted to go 4 Star and the web site photos looked okay. When we arrived I was not impressed firstly by the...

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to post a review on our hotel and I am very sorry that certain aspects of your stay did not live up to your expectation. The maintenance fault within the room had been identified, unfortunately was a breakdown in communication and you should not have been checked into the room prior to...

We stayed three nights here for the 2014 fringe and had a great time. The hotel couldn't be faulted, the staff were friendly and professional. Breakfast was good, free papers available, excellent WiFi (free) and a not too expensive bar (if you want a quiet drink at the end of a busy festival night it's worth an extra quid or...

The hotel is in a perfect position. In fact this is the best thing about the hotel. The room was very nice and clean but I can imagine that at a warmer time it would be unbearable as when we stayed the temperature in Edinburgh was 15 degrees C. so I don't know what it would have been like with...

Stayed here during the Fringe Festival 2014. The staff is exceptionally nice and helpful. The rooms are nice, the bathrooms are spacious and comfortable. We skipped breakfast here, I'm sure it's amazing but it was a bit too expensive for us, but there were lots of little cafés nearby where you can eat breakfast. I liked Hulu Juice just a...

Dear Guest Thank you for taking the time to leave a review following your recent stay with us. I am glad you found your room to be comfortable and enjoyed your visit. Unfortunately a lot of guests have a preconception that breakfast in a hotel will be very expensive. As you kindly point out this is not always the case....

This was a perfectly located hotel for a recent trip to Edinburgh. The room was good, at the side of the hotel but we could still see the castle and it was quiet. Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
