Very impressed with every aspect of my stay in this hotel. We arrived early to explore the capital and we're told our room was ready at 11.30am and we could park there all day and all the following day (even although we only stayed one night). Staff were friendly, chatty and helpful at check in. As we stayed mid-week and...

Room was clean and warm and a superbly comfortable bed. Thought we would have noise next to the lift shaft but not a peep. Location was very convenient just below the castle, and very close to the excellent National Museum of Scotland. Would definitely recommend

I arranged the stay for my wife's 40th birthday. I emailed the hotel to ask for a bottle of prosecco on arrival. On entering the room, they had left a nice note wishing my wife happy birthday and they had also upgraded us to a room with a view of the castle. Thank you very much to the Apex staff...

If you're visiting Edinburgh, perfect location for walking everywhere with ease and lovely surrounding square and streets. Restaurants and pubs across the road were great for grabbing quick meals but so close to walk to attractions

We chose this hotel because we have stayed in one in London a couple of times which was very good. The staff were friendly and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. The room we had didn't have a view but we didn't spend much time in there except to sleep! We chose it for its location and walked everywhere....

We spent Dec 30th - New Years Day here. The location is fantastic - and the location seems close to everything. The castle is right across the street- literally. Friendly staff, we even got lucky with a car parking space. Rooms are comfortable. Walk out the door and Edinburgh restaurants, bars and tourist attractions are a stones throw away. Tip:...

Good stay. Slept well.it was a nice hotel and the bar area was pleasant. We left a shirt behind by accident and called a few weeks later. The hotel had kept hold of the shirt and it was returned to us in the post. The customer service was good.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
