excellent hotel, friendly staff, perfectly located in the city centre, and perfect for business trips and leisure trips. Would certainly recommend staying at this hotel. We had our honeymoon at this hotel and the staff could not do anymore for us.

We booked a winter deal direct with MacDonald's Hotels , it really was a bargain rate with each night coming in at just below £100 including breakfast and dinner, both meals of a very high standard and served by very attentive staff. Our room on the second floor was spacious and warm with everything you would want, including free wifi. The...

We have enjoyed a 2 night stay at this hotel and we can highly recommend it. We had the Spa and meals package and the service throughout was exceptional. The pool and Spa are very good facilities and the food was great. The waiters were friendly and efficient.

Only on the basis that we had booked a disabled room - The hotel has onsite car parking with an overnight additional charge of £25.00. During check-in I was informed that our room was accessible, however, when I opened the ensuite door I noticed the shower was in bath, this was rectified by quick call to reception, who sent up...

Room with two comfortable single beds was large with a large modern bathroom. The heating was not working down our end of the hotel so it was very cold however once I advised reception the next morning, they instantly sent portable heaters to our room and they worked well. I found breakfast to be very expensive and opted to go...

The location is on the edge of town however this makes it more relaxing and the walk to the centre is only ten mins. Spa...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
