From walking through the front door and stepping foot inside, the hotel is very warm and welcoming, as was the lady behind the reception desk. She was helpful too. For some reason, the booking website had requested an 'easy access room' which had duly be accommodated; very helpful if that's what you needed. The room was very large, comfortable looking...

Although by no means a dreadful review, I am sorry to learn about any confusion with our room types suffered by this guest, and would urge all future travellers to book using our own website where room descriptions are clearly available. I will also address the issue of produce used for breakfast with our Chef, and I am confident we...

We spent a weekend at the hotel while we were furnishing a new flat we had bought in Edinburgh. From the very friendly receptionist who checked us in, we felt comfortable. The street outside is quiet so no disturbance during the night. Parking was not a problem either. The hotel is nice - if a little faded by time -...

A lovely review and my thanks to this guest - I am sorry to hear that the steak was a little tough and will address this with Adam, Head Chef, but rest assured we do not use "frozen chips"! Leon Kiteley General Manager

Just got back from a wonderful stay at the Channings, my husband booked a four night stay as my birthday treat, and what a treat it was. From the moment we arrived everything was perfect, the room was large and beautifully decorated, all the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. First class hotel my husband could not...

Stayed in Channings for 3 nights with friends celebrating my birthday. Could not have had a better place to stay. The hotel is lovely, great location to walk into Princess St., the staff could not be more helpful and the food was excellent. We treated ourselves to lunch at a famous 5* restaurant up near the castle which was good...

We stayed in this hotel as part of a Christmas break to Edinburgh, and used airmiles to pay for it. The hotel is slightly out of the centre - for us, it was a 10 minute walk to the top end of Princes Street (25 minutes to the Royal Mile). It cost about £7 for a taxi from the station....

A super review of Channing's and my thanks to this guest for taking the time to write such good feedback. I note your comment regarding tea facilities in the lounge and can assure you that we are happy to serve drinks or light meals in this area at any time. Leon Kiteley General Manager

We have had a lovely stay in this lovely cosy hotel just 5-10minutes walk from Princes Street. The staff were all very friendly and the breakfast range was fantastic. Something for everyone. Our room was nicely decorated and comfortable. Only thing I will say is I wish there had been more light in the room as I like to read....

My wife and I started visiting Channings 10 years ago, and have been back at least once every year since. We are just back from two nights and once more it delivered exactly what we expected - and more. The more came thanks to a room upgrade, where we were fortunate enough to stay in the "Discovery" suite. We had...

We booked one of the petite double rooms for our stay thinking that we might end up finding the bed a few centimetres from the open door and having to creep around the bed to get in but were really pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of the room. Nicely decorated and really comfortable bed. At complete odds with...

Booked this hotel for a couple of nights in Edinburgh; wanted a quiet location but close to city centre. This was excellent. The room was large, well appointed - possibly one of the best we have stayed in; however, the route to the roof was alittle tortuous. The gereral decoration was very good and there were references to Shackleton -...

A lovely foyer with warm fires and a nice traditional feel to the whole place. The room was nice, and good for the cheap price. The Breakfast was a severe let down with the cooked food being of awful quality, and although included in the price we ate elsewhere for our second night. Overall though a nice hotel but could...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Channings in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. It occupies five Edwardian townhouses in Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's most popular 'urban villages'. Channings is a wonderfully quirky property which feels a bit like a Scottish country home, full of charming Victorian paintings, prints, books, furniture and memorabilia reflecting the history of previous tenant Sir Ernest Shackleton. ... more   less
