Channing’s is a nice, homey hotel that is a great place to stay in Edinburgh. Channing’s is situated in a neighborhood outside of the city center which I actually liked because it was very quiet at night unlike the hotel where I stayed at on my final night. Yes, it is a walk, but for the ability to sleep well...

Dear 'CuriousBinky', Thank you for your recent review of our hotel. I am very glad to see that you have noticed the advantages of staying at hotels that are located slightly away from the city centre, as Edinburgh can be quite noisy at night, as any other capital. Additionally it is a great pleasure to hear that you find our...

We stayed at the Channings Hotel for 3 nights with 3 other couples who were all traveling together. The hotel is out side of the city center just far enough to be quiet and peaceful and close enough for an easy walk in. The lounge areas were comfortable and welcoming for our group to sit and chat and maybe share...

We first visited the Channings about seven or eight years ago, and apart from the room being a tad small were very impressed overall. However, we must say that out recent return was a disappointment. The room (26) was much larger, but the decor and fittings looked tired and shabby. Sideboards, cupboards and chairs were chipped and tired. the main...

Nice hotel, stayed with my sister, for a girlie break, but I have to agree with others it is looking a little tired, and definitely needs a new stair carpet, wouldn't like to catch it with high heeled shoes on, apart from that the room was comfortable, bathroom very nice, staff polite, breakfast was okish, but I am a very...

Rooms are nice, beds are big and comfy, rooms have all mod cons and free Wifi. So here's the problem the prices of the food, the...

We booked this through an agent. The hotel is 3 typical town houses knocked into 1. The location is difficult to find as its in an area of streets and roads with very similar names! The hotel is set on a hill over looking a park and the old part of the city. We has a suite and were pleased...

Peaceful location about a 30 minute walk from the main attractions. Exceptionally helpful staff. Room itself was somewhat tired with cracked tiles and aged decor. The photos on the site only show the luxury rooms so prepare o be disappointed if you expect similar accommodation. Also the room did not have all the advertised facilities I.e. DVD player - though...

An excellent hotel. The room was spotless, the food was excellent and for what i saw in other parts of the city it was quite reasonably priced, though we only ate in the bar not the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful in any request we had. It was only a short walk to Princes street. I would...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Channings in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. It occupies five Edwardian townhouses in Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's most popular 'urban villages'. Channings is a wonderfully quirky property which feels a bit like a Scottish country home, full of charming Victorian paintings, prints, books, furniture and memorabilia reflecting the history of previous tenant Sir Ernest Shackleton. ... more   less
