Have stayed here a few times with business when working in edinburgh. You are just 5 mins or so from the west end of princes street... But if you are looking for somewhere very quiet to get a good sleep then the Bonham is a good choice. Small hotel, but friendly staff and good service. Rooms are always clean and...

We'd flown in from London, so were able to take the Airlink bus to Haymarket station and walk the 10-15 minutes to the Bonham, which was very handy. The location is also great for getting to the city centre, about 10 minutes in the other direction. We loved the building which was very elegant and furnished in period style. We...

This hotel is in a great area, nice and quiet but also central,5 min walk to Princes St and local bars and shops are nice too. The rooms are too hot,but have great views and whilst small, are big enough, bathroom small also but fine. Breakfast was a bit disorganised as got our orders wrong but the good itself was very good, and I...

This hotel is a number of large Nineteenth Century houses merged together. Our room on the second floor was excellent with a great view over the valley of the Water of Leith. Our friends for the same money were given a smaller room. Breakfast was excellent. Dinner was very good though the portions are not large. Some of the rooms...

Fab hotel, reasonably close to all amenities. Rooms were nice, clean and very comfortable. Could have had more selection in the mini bar and only one sachet of coffee each to start but staff were more than happy to bring some more up for us. Staff were all lovely and helpful without being obtrusive. Every request was handled quickly and...

This hotel is wonderful! The rooms are spacious and comfortable with all the extras! Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. This hotel has the added advantage of not only being in the city centre but has a free hotel car park.

Lovely building and rooms. Service very mixed - generally polite but very slow. Drinks expensive. Breakfast delicious but with tiny portions. Could certainly be cleaner. Overall seriously overpriced and gives the impression of trying to get as much cash out of guests for as little service as possible. Would not stay here again.

If you are contemplating a stay in this hotel think twice. I have just returned from a three night stay and the temperature in our room, 202, was excessive. The hotel said they were having problems with their radiators. That may be the case but believe me think twice, I spent in excess of £400 and am glad to be...

Fabulous hotel. Very big spacious room, high ceilings. Interesting decor mix of traditional and modern with stripy furnishings, modern painting. Loads of cupboard space almost a walk in wardrobe. All facilities in the room. Some unusual furniture pieces in the room. Had fabulous view over Scottish skyline. Huge bathroom with the white company toiletries (fixed). Comfortable beds(huge) although slightly on...

Stayed here at the weekend, having onsite parking was a great bonus, the room we got faced onto the car park so not much scenery to look at, the room was clean and tidy. We didn't eat In the hotel as for only a 5min walk there is George Street with lots of bars and restaurants, however pricing was good...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
