Where to start? It is impossible to rate The Howard alongside other 5 star hotels as, well, it's just so unique. The main selling point for The Howard is its team of butlers. My first thought was this was a bit OTT - until I arrived! You are treated like royalty every minute you are inside this incredible establishment. You...

Booked on a last minute site to treat my friend for her 40th. Loved the boutique nature and the real 'new town Edinburgh' feel of the hotel. Asked if we could possibly have a cake to surprise my friend and despite the short time scale this was duly sourced , well done!! She loved it. We stayed in the Dundas...

Our family of 4 with 2 small children stayed at this amazing hotel for 3 nights in a Suite on the first floor (or second depending on where you are from :)) I would not qualify this hotel as a family hotel, however the staff has been fantastically accommodating by placing the necessary additional cots and catering to our every...

This is a lovely hotel in a Georgian town house with comfortable rooms and good food. The staff is very accommodating and pleasant, with 24 hour butler service. One negative, however, is that it is a long walk (up hill) to the main museums and other attractions in the town, particularly if the weather is not cooperating.

We visited Edinburgh at the weekend and stumbled upon the Howard by looking for hotels with on site parking. This is a gem of a find, in a beautiful part of the Georgian New Town only minutes walk from the centre but yet close to many local restaurants. The hotel is timelessly elegant and a perfect place to relax. The...

This is a fab little hotel tucked away in an excellent location in the city. The outside looked quite modest but walking into the welcome vestibule was very grand, homely and welcoming. We were greeted by two very helpful staff who offered to park the car and deliver it bags to our suite. Our suite was very lush and comfortable....

Saturday afternoon and in for afternoon tea in one of the front drawing rooms: nice enough but it could do with a freshening up a bit. The music was a bit funereal but it wasn't a drama getting it changed to something a little lighter (we were the only ones there). Service was very friendly and professional and the selection...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
