Booked a suite with a view of the Castle and couldn't have been more delighted. Service was as you'd expect exceptional and extremely personal without being intrusive. Dining was excellent and drinks in the bar was more of the same. Would and do plan to return.

Maybe my expectations were a bit high as I understood this to be the best hotel in Edinburgh. Maybe it is - but I wasn't 'wow-ed'. Room was decent - but nothing special. Breakfast in Galvin Brasserie was a bit like a slightly posher Little Chef. Lounge area felt a bit anonymous. Overall it served a purpose - but the...

The hotel is a lovely old property with so much history. It is over 100 years old and there are of course some things that you need to overlook as it is old, but VERY lovely, amazing location fantastic staff. LOVED IT!

Just back from a one night dinner, bed and breakfast stay, which my husband booked as a special occasion. We were impressed with the online checkin with the app which was excellent, we got to choose our room from a plan showing all the rooms and our options. We chose a 3rd floor corner room, turned out to be a...

We have just finished a tour of Scotland and one of our stops was Edinburgh. I have to admit, beside the hotel being one of the landmarks it would need some refurb but it compensated with it's service. Having come from the London Langham Hotel, perhaps I was a bit spoiled. I booked this hotel through AMEX FHR. Granted, it was less expensive than the Langham in what seems like a touristy city (Edinburgh). I was upgraded to a king room, which was - indeed - much larger than probably some of the other rooms. However, maintenance is...

The Waldorf-Astoria Caledonia has 5 star facilities but service is 3 star at best. To command the 5 star premium the Caledonia needs to follow through on the little things that make a difference. We had at least 3 incidents during our stay where the hotel staff promised to fix minor issues on what seemed to be very basic hotel...

I had booked this hotel as part of a surprise trip for my girlfriend's birthday & had a disappointing experience for a few reasons. Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
