I visited with my wife for new years celebrations and it was a near perfect experience. Our stay started off in the hotel car park when a kind staff member saw us with lots of luggage and helped take it in with a kind smile. Check in was a breeze and we were given a castle view room and the...

Stayed for a two-night Christmas offer. Overall was somewhat disappointed with the size of the rooms and the Christmas lunch for the price charged. Apart from the overall package, breakfast was very good and dinner in the brasserie was also excellent. Had had a package delivered to the hotel but had to go and ask for it rather than it...

I have never stayed in a Hilton, or any other hotel like it. They are fraudulent with credit card details and between me and my mum have over charged us £500 for something we haven't had and furthermore can not explain what these "mistakes" were and why they happened. I'm very aware that at New Year the price of hotels...

We stayed here over new years, and we were very disappointed with the hotel. The standard room is hardly bigger than a closet by any standards, and I've attached the view from our room onto the heating duct. It was impossible to open a suitcase anywhere in the room except on the bed due to the size. I also feel...

Given that it is a Waldorf Astoria, my expectations were quite high. On the first night, found an empty toilet roll and hair under the bathroom basin then on the second day we waited in the afternoon tea area for 20 minutes without anyone serving us? Front desk and concierge staff were great, but the rest was a little disappointing.

The Caledonian, or Caley, is a five-star experience in every way...service, location, rooms, and ambiance. A former Victorian train station, the Caley is breathtaking from the moment you step inside. When our family of four arrived after our transatlantic flight, we were warmly welcomed by a young man at the reception, which set the tone for service throughout our stay....

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
