Stayed here with 11 friends it was a good price for city-centre location. Basic rooms but all we needed for the stay. We were within easy reach of bars, restaurants and shopping. Everyone enjoyed their stay and said they would stay here again. The only down point was our room was opposite the breakfast dining room and it was pretty...

Great place and location for a visit to explore Edinburgh without it costing a fortune. Super comfy beds, friendly helpful staff with a good selection of food for breakfast all at great budget. Good alternative to other budget hotel options.

Hotel is well located, close walk to the station and shopping and the added bonus of the airport bus stop out the front. The check in was easy and the room was fine. Coffee and tea making facilities in room which was nice. The shower could have done with a more thorough clean & we thought it was a bit...

We stayed in a compact double room. First impressions of room: it had erything we needed but definitely basic and a little worn. The housekeeping staff did a good job of making over the rooms while we were out during the day but in general it could be doing with a really good dusting along skirting boards etc and a...

The hotel is located just a block away from Prince Street Gardens. Castle and Royal Mile are about 10-15 minute walk away, Waverley is 10 mins walk or £5 taxi ride away. Airport bus stops right at the front door. The rooms are nice and have all of the basics. Bathrooms are slightly dated and could use some TLC. The...

Pros Good location - tram stop is right in front Comfortable bed Hot shower - good water pressure Cons Thin walls / doors That's pretty much it - it's barebones but if that's all you need then it's a good spot.

We booked this hotel for four nights during a city break. Initially we thought it was slightly overpriced for what it was (£70 a night), but in hindsight it is half term. My wife is a newly qualified teacher and we are only just getting accustomed to the holiday price hike. The hotel is very basic and the rooms are...

I took a trip with my parents and needed a central location where j could walk to everything. This is central to restaurants and shopping and a 15 min walk to Old town. We were a family sharing one room so we had a double bed an bunk beds. Breakfast is extra for £6 each, but we opted to have...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
