The Travelodge Edinburgh Haymarket Hotel is praised for its central location and clean, spacious rooms, yet some guests have raised concerns about noise and the dated condition of certain amenities, notably the bathrooms. While the friendly and helpful staff contribute to a generally positive experience, inconsistencies in service and daily room maintenance have been noted. Opinions on value are divided; guests appreciate the reasonable room rates but are less impressed by the additional costs for extras and the quality of the breakfast offerings.

Adequate location with buses nearby to Prince Street and Edinburgh Waverley Station. There're supermarkets near the hotel and Water of Leith Walkway and Dean Village are just 10 mins walk away. The twin rooms are surprisingly spatious! There's a third bed in the room and still there are much unoccupied space. This room can easily live up to 5 people and yet we're getting it at a twin room price. Compared to other hotels in the area, thid Travelodge branch is definitely affordable and cheaper. There's a bag drop service where you can hand over your belongings even before check in time, and there's a cafeteria where you can get free drinks, coffee and juices from as a resident even of you didn't purchase breakfast plans.

Booked this travel lodge at Haymarket twice for four nights within 7 days, so had two different rooms, one on first floor for 2 nights and the other 3 days later on 2nd floor for 2 nights. Both rooms were gigantic with exceptionally comfortable beds and pillows. Both bathrooms were spotlessly clean with good showers and fluffy white towels. Absolutely no complaints about the rooms.

Booking in was quick and I was greeted warmly on both occasions with the receptionist advising of mealtimes, access out of hours etc.

The hotel is easy walking distance from Haymarket station and local buses but is set back so there was no noise from outside the hotel and I didn't experience any noise inside either. I slept really well.

My only criticism and why I haven't given an 'excellent' is the television. For starters could only get BBC channels and nothing else, no ITV or freeview channels. Might not be a problem except even that was sporadic as the signal seemed to be weak so would often disappear altogether. As I was a solo traveller up to see friends nearby I spent a lot of the evening in my room and was looking forward to catching up with the soaps, it was a little disappointing to sit in room with nothing (radio was sporadic also). I did mention it to the receptionist who admitted they had a problem and it was being sorted so this might be fixed?

I would definitely rebook for when I am up in Edinburgh again.

We recently stayed when it should have been the fringe however it was cancelled, due to covid. As travelodge only offered vouchers as a cancellation option we decided to go anyway.
The hotel was okay, there was absolutely no parking near to the hotel, the pay and display spaces outside are for a maximum of four hours.
During our stay a dog had pooped on the front pavement in front of the steps. Whilst this isn’t travelodges fault I would have expected someone to have thrown a couple of buckets of water down to wash the smeared mess away, as opposed to guests having to jump and climb around it as to not get the mess on their shoes. (Surely in the interest of the carpets and smell of the hotel too)
I paid extra for a twin family room and ended up with a small double and a camp bed.
The rooms are warm however the window can be opened and a fan is provided so we were comfortable.
The pillows and bedding were really uncomfortable, I have stayed in travelodges before but this bedding seemed below par.
Other than that it’s a good hotel, good location. Just needs an upgrade and an improvement from travelodge as a company with regards to bedding, booking and staff.

The hotel is budget friendly and in a very good centre location. It is at 1-2 min walking distance from Haymarket rail station and two nearby bus stops, almost on the main road. It's easy to avail public commute from here such as reach here (Stop: Haymarket Station) by very frequent 'Airlink 100' bus or 'Yorkplace' tram/streetcar from the airport. Other local Lothian buses can be taken from Waverley rail station to come here (Stop: Magdala Crescent) or to roam within Edinburgh city with £1.7 (cash with exact amount) for single ride or £4 (with contactless UK debit card) for unlimited ride/day.
Lots of good restaurants (different ethnic cuisines), Cafes, Take-aways and pubs are located nearby within walking distance. Also there is a Co-op and a Tesco express for emergency snacks and drinks stock.

Our hotel room and attached bathroom were neat and clean. Being minimalist, the room was perfect for us. We used to go out every morning to roam the city whole day with a room service request slip on our door. When we returned, everything used to be organized and changed with new set of towels and bed linens, also tea coffee supplies (sachets) were replenished. We used to be so tired and the beds were so comfy, it took us some minutes to fall asleep, without completing any TV movie or drama. There was no disturbance at night. In the morning we could see the beautiful view of the city from our huge window. There was 30 min free wifi each day which was enough as we had data packs with us. Three times food options were also there in the hotel's own restaurant. Overall this was a very neat service for a basic stay, no extra or no less. We loved our stay.

We had a brilliant stay at traveloge hay market.
The property is a heritage building with large rooms, the largest in the UK. Grand chandelier and a winding wooden staircase makes the lobby.

The service is super efficient - well appointed rooms with crisp double count Egyptian Giza cotton linen bedspreads

The breakfast is a hot buffet - eggs, sausages (vegan options), grilled tomatoes, hash browns, baked beans etc

The wifi is hi speed

All works well

The tram stop is a 3 minute walk,

The city centre is a 10 minute 1 mile stroll

The staff is super friendly and super efficient

Really it's hard to find fault with a room this close to the centre of Edinburgh for such a good rate!! I think I got very lucky to get a room in Edinburgh for almost the same price as staying in a Youth Hostel, thanks Corona!! I must admit I didn't have amazingly high expectations for my first stay at a Travelodge but I was pleasantly surprised. The room was basic but spacious (looked a bit bare because of this) and the building and local area were beautiful. The room had a great view out to the West end and the linen and bed was very comfortable. It was great to have a bath as well as a shower. The WIFI worked well. I brought my own hairdryer but one is available on request if you need one and the toiletries are basic shower gel/shampoo and hand wash. The reception wasn't always manned but that wasn't a problem for me. Hard to find fault for the price, would recommend.

We recently stayed at this hotel after planning a trip to see a friend. We travelled from Plymouth. Family room, twin with extra bed was booked. Our flight was delayed so tried to call the hotel 9 times to make them aware we will be checking in late. When we arrived at 10pm there was no one to be seen, I pressed the bell as requested and a very miserable member of staff emerged from a back room who looked very confused as we were checking in. She barely looked at the screen and said ‘2 people, 1 night’ I said no, 3 people for 4 nights. She handed me a key and said ‘first floor’. The room was filthy, it looked like it hadn’t be dusted in years. The window was left open so bugs were flying around the room. The fan was on and the amount of dust on this was a health hazard. There was an awful smell that can only be described as cat urine and to top it off there was only 1 small double and a pop up bed! In the morning we called the reception to ask for extra towels (as we were only given 2) and a hairdryer, she said we can make out way down to collect if we want it from reception. The hairdryer was faulty so this was yet another trip to the reception. We had to request an extra bed and when this was set up nothing was taken from the room (glasses & rubbish left at door). We asked if we could get drinks from the bar were told by two separate members of staff that no one is working and they don’t have enough staff. The whole experience was awful and really ruined our well needed trip. I have tried to get in touch with Travelodge but I have had no response. Shocking

We often stay at the Travelodge Hotels throughout Scotland. This is the worst one.
At our arrival we were asked when we´ll have our breakfast just to find out nobody of the morning shift really is interested when we arrive for it. Checking the internet on mobile phones seems the main purpose of the morning shift, as we viewed it.
Another big disappointment was the servive at all.
Instead of using a tray to clean up the tables everything was removed by hand. So it took its time to clean the breakfast room. The first impression when entering this room was total chaos. As every working person in the morning shift was doing this it seems there is no training to the personnel. One person even sanitized the table while my food was on it. In other words this person tried to spray my food with some disinfectant.

Talking about shifts and personnel: We booked the breakfast when we arrived at the Travelodge. The next 14 days of our stay we were frequently asked about when we want to pay for the breakfast. Obviously the System is not able to process the simple fact we already paid. Quite embarrassing when here are some tables occupied and the people think we try to sneak around paying for the breakfast. Even talking to the Assistant Manager didn´t help.
When arriving in our room we found a used spoon and a cup. I expect in times of Covid that hygiene has priority.
It seems that the simple fact that we just want to have a nice holiday wasn´t the basic idea of the people working at the Travelodge Haymarket. I don´t expect the Travelodge to be a 5 star Hotel. But I do expect the basics like a clean breakfast room, efficient personnel, basic hygiene or a working IT system.

We had a huge room on the basement/lower garden level. No noise, mirror infront of desk & plug socket which is missing from a lot of travelodge rooms. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful. No noise experienced in the morning. Only a few minutes from Haymarket station. Would use again.

Not bad, cheap, clean,,but more attention to details would be good. After 15:00 not a good idea. To be able to open both windows is also a good idea, the one window was stuck closed with paint, and the other could only be openef 4 inches. No wardrobe, chest of drawers, dificult to pack away your clothes. Loction good, handy for trams and buses, lots of cafes, bars and supermarkts for food and drinks. Staff very helpful and friendly.

We took our luggage to the large port cabin outside Waverley station as going back to the hotel to collect would have been too far out of the way. Think it was £7 per item .
