Nestled in a tranquil setting with easy access to attractions, Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort Lodges offers clean, if sometimes under-stocked, accommodations. Although the lodges are spacious, some guests have noted wear and a need for better maintenance. The resort's atmosphere is generally praised, but issues with privacy and comfort have been mentioned.
While the service is often commended for professionalism, instances of inattention surface. Critics argue the value for money is lacking, pointing to overpriced amenities and subpar dining options. Despite clean hot tubs and surroundings, the resort's amenities sometimes fall short of expectations.

Detailed Reviews
A group of 20 of us stayed in Kingennie Court North and South to celebrate a hen weekend - the accommodation was second to none!!
All rooms in both lodges were well equipped with an ensuite off every room, as well as a main pubic facing bathroom. The living dining areas were truly show stoppers and made it easy for all 20 of us to socialise together.
What was a real benefit to us with the weather being beautiful all weekend was the additional terrace space outside, which enabled us to spend a lot of time out there soaking up the sun.
I dealt with Lauren, Lodge Administrator through the booking process who made the organisation simple and easy.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for large group accommodation, and neither would the 19 others who attended too!

We have been to this resort 4 times over the past few years and each time in a different lodge. This time we stayed in the Glen Finlet lodge, the hot tub was a welcome addition but did not look very appealing on arrival as the lid & steps were covered in Bird Droppings (to be expected with trees around) but the whole time we were there these were never cleaned even though someone called every day to put chemical in the hot tub, even on last day tub was drained and refilled but still cover wasn't cleaned. The lodge was clean and the beds were very comfortable everything you need for a self catering break. My son loves the fishing when we stay and as a lodge guest we have always had the use of the fishing rods free of charge and only paid for the license, but on this stay a charge of £7.50 per rod was charged so no special prices for lodge guests as stated on the website & previous stays which is very disappointing. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant and staff were very pleasant, would highly recommend. I would advise though to make sure you check your bill as we were charged for a bottle of wine instead of a glass, luckily my son spotted this and it was rectified once I drew attention to the error. We did have a really lovely stay and the weather was dry and sunny most of the time. Unfortunately as much as I love this place I feel with all the price increases on the lodges & fishing I am unsure I would return unless I came across a special offer.

Thank you so much for your 4 star review. We are glad overall that you enjoyed your stay and agree that the hot tubs have been a great addition to our lodges. We are sorry about the oversight of the hot tub lid. I will pass on the feedback over to the fishing also. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your meal and will pass on this feedback to the food and beverage team. We are sorry to hear that the price increases will stop you returning in future. Unfortunately the inflation has affected us and prices have had to increase over the years, however, we do strive to always keep the standard and quality the same if not improve. We do often offer deals and discounts on every department whether it is last minute discounts on lodges or food deals throughout the week. A great way to keep an eye out for these would be to follow us on Facebook as this would be one of the first places we would advertise this. Also any deals and offers will be posted on our website. We do hope you can make the trip to see us again. Regards, Kingennie Management Team

We have previously stayed in several of the dog friendly lodges and like the location as my husband can fish while I can potter around the site or venture into the local towns. On this visit we stayed in Glen Clova which is a different layout to the other lodges with the living area downstairs. This made it a bit quirky. Not sure how the downstairs bedroom and wet room works. It is obviously designed as a disabled area but is impossible to access due to the small gap leading to the area. This didn’t affect us but would be difficult if you had a disability. The lodge sleeps 5 and there are 5 dining chairs but 2 would be unusable as they are right up against the back of the sofa.
The WiFi wasn’t available while we were staying which would have been a problem as we had some urgent family business to sort. However when raising this we were immediately offered an alternative lodge or the use of a nearby empty one. My husband managed to leave his wallet behind which the cleaning staff handed in and we received a very welcome phone call to say they had found it. We are very grateful for this.
All the staff are very helpful and friendly. We will definitely go back again as we do love the resort

Originally booked the Leannan Boathouse for 4 nights but after realising it didn't have a shower only a bath i asked if they could change the booking which they did not problem. Arrived friday 27th August to Glen Isla.. totally disappointed. As we have been going a couple of times a year for at least 6-7 years because my husband loves the fishing we couldn't believe there was no freezer. All the other lodges we have stayed in at the resort have either half and half or at least a small freezer compartment .The fridge itself only had one shelf .No salad box at the bottom no shelf at the top of the door and if you put anything big on the bottom shelf when you opened the door it fell out.I phoned reception at just after 4 and was told maintenance had left for the day but would be over the next morning .Next the extension that the tv, sky and dvd didn't work luckily we had brought one with us. Next the bathroom smelt disgusting we had to leave the window open all the time. Went to reception the following morning so they could note all the problems. She asked about the smell saying does it smell like a sewer and i said yes so obviously there had been other complaints .Shelves and salad box for fridge left outside door on Sunday morning but were for the wrong make of fridge so were useless. The stair grippers underneath the carpet are sticking out so had to watch going up and down if you had bare feet. My husband was really disappointed that he could only do catch and release we decided to leave on the Monday instead of Tuesday. When i went to hand back the keys i was told that my husband could have stored any fish he caught in the kitchen freezer. It's a pity they didn't think to let us know .For a self catering lodge not to have a small freezer is pretty bad.

We stayed in the Bards Neuk lodge and it was very good. It was clean, warm and very well furnished. I would suggest that the chairs around the dinning table would benefit from some attention however, it did not detract from our enjoyment.
We booked and visited the restaurant on Sunday the 26th of Feb at 7:30 and was extremely disappointed with the quality of the food. The soup was not hot, the steak sandwich was cold and did not contain the ordered thin fries, the parmesan crisp served with mushrooms was not crisp and in fact soggy and uneatable, the coleslaw looked as it had been left under hot lights for some considerable time, the sauce that accompanied the pakora exhibited a similar trait and being based on mayonnaise did not look at all enticing. The pakora was soggy and not crispy as expected.
Half way through our meal we were asked if we would require coffee at the end of our meal with no explanation.
Had any one enquired about our meal we would have made these comments at the time however, that would have required staff to be attentive. The impression obtained by us was that we were there on sufferance and being the last people in the room we should finish as soon as possible allowing them to clear up and continue setting up for breakfast.
We have visited this location on several previous occasions and have had some good experiences. I will confirm that when we return we will not be using the on site restaurant.

Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am very sorry to hear that your experience dining with us was not great. I have passed this information onto the restaurant manager. If you would like to speak to someone further about this please let us know or contact us at the resort. This is definitely not a standard we strive to achieve and is not accepted. Despite this, I am very happy to hear you enjoyed your stay in the lodge and hope this experience does not put you off staying in the future. Kind Regards, Kingennie Management Team.

We’ve been staying at Forbes of Kingennie for years and the Lodges are really starting to show their age.
We stayed in Glen Lee in December. Carpets are dirty and worm, kitchen generally really needs an upgrade, serious issue with the hob, you couldn’t see the symbols for the rings and it’s an old style hob so you didn’t know which ring you were turning on and what temp it was at. I badly burned my fingers. Oven doesn’t work great either.
We stayed in Glen Logie in February and the main bathroom is really in need of replacement. Grout is coming up from the tiles on the floor, smell of damp, generally old looking.
The boiler makes really loud banging noises, even through the night.
Sofa in living room tired and smelled of dog, no blinds or curtains the upstairs living area.
The kitchen here also needs upgrading, small and old fridge freezer, better cooker though, but not great! The kitchen was also not very well kitted out, not enough plates and cutlery, chipped cheap mugs, etc.
The hot tub with this lodge is quite exposed, great if you want to sit in the tub and look over the lakes and main buildings, not so great if you don’t want the fishers and diners in the restaurant seeing you in your swimmer!
The lodge’s generally look tired externally, woodwork needs painted, etc.
The kids play park would benefit from some investment, there’s not that much to do on the resort with kids, but a bit more added to the play park would help.
On the positive side I would stress how helpful and pleasant I’ve always found the staff. When we pointed out the lack of crockery and cutlery it was quickly resolved. The food and service in the restaurant is also very good and you get 10% off as a lodge guest.
The location is really good, there’s an Innoflate and Costa 5 mins away, and Broughty Ferry and Dundee are both easily accessible.
We took advantage of the 50% off from Jan - Feb but I’m not sure I’d be happy paying full price with the current standard of the lodges.

Spent 3 nights with friends and had a great time. The lodge was very clean and exceptionally well equipped with everything you need. Restaurant, pub and cafe, outside and in was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the views and walks were superb. Very tranquil and relaxing and plenty of wee nooks and crannies to sit, read or to just take in the atmosphere. Hubbies enjoyed the fishing but golf course looked great and was also well used. Although resort was busy everywhere had a nice ‘vibe’ I certainly will return.
The reason for 4 stars instead of 5. .nothing is perfect and I have to say that your lodges need to have blinds on the shower room/bathroom windows! Goodness me when you pass by and someone is in shower or loo it’s pretty obvious which gender they are! Please put blinds or curtains up

We have stayed at 2 of these lodges which are great in every way. Warm, well equipped, clean, dog friendly
The main issue in both lodges we have stayed in is the hot water system. There is only ever enough hot water for 1 bath. Water needs to be put back on to heat for at least 2 hours for enough for another bath. As the lodges we stayed in sleep 4 or 6 this is totally impractical. We only have a shower in our house so a bath is a real luxury and very disappointing
I did raise this with the reception staff who did send a maintenance man over to check but because the tanks are so small there is nothing that can be done. The operations manager was going to contact me but despite chasing this up both on leaving and with a subsequent email I have not heard anything, which is disappointing

This was the most idillic place to have our honeymoon. Hot tub, amazing food, beautiful views and close to other areas to explore. The staff at Forbes were so kind and helpful and I couldn’t fault their service. Every meal was like luxury and we left wanting to try something new and exciting. We stayed in the Stargazer Hut and it was fantastic. Nice and private with plenty of room to live in. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was just heaven. We stayed through Covid, and the hot tub was emptied before and after we visited so could not feel more safe. The finishing touches such as the robes and flask for late night star gazing was amazing and so personal to the hut. We had the romantic package and it was so well presented and made us feel so welcome, definitely would opt for this again purely for the chocolates. Could not fault this location for honeymoons, special occasions, or just a weekend getaway. Thank you to all who helped us to have an amazing time!

Myself and my husband have stayed at the boathouse twice after the parts of our wedding (june and december) and would love to stay again for anniversaries. The decor, the balcony and veranda, the sweet hearts on the crockery, the surround sound...all romantic. Misses with the boathouse - no catch up players on the TV and not all channels and it would be better if the music player was updated to include bluetooth and I found the bed very hard but I suppose that's personal preference. We have also stayed in Coorie Doon, the shepherd's hut, and thought this was very cleverly arranged, it was sweet and cosy and the hot tub is a big thumbs up. Misses - mix match of glasses. My family however had quite negative experiences in their lodges. Kingennie South Court had issues with the dishwasher, glassware was dirty (something that was also commented on in Finlet and Prosen) and there were a couple other broken bits around the lodge so it hadn't seemed well cared for despite the main living area and view of the golf course being gorgeous. There was also a problem with hot water in Glen Finlet and Glen Prosen and my family in Prosen had to use the shower in the next door lodge. Reception and Maintenance were quick to respond however. Again though, the view and the decor of the living area (along with stove) in Prosen are tasteful and stylish but homely. One final comment which isn't fault of Kingennie, however my friend in Bard's Neuk was forced to check out early when men checking something with the pipes came early and made her rush packing up and leave so they could do their work. Quick comment on the Scullery and bar - I have always been so impressed that no matter how busy the restaurant gets (which is most of the time!) the bathrooms are always so neat, tidy and clean with plenty soap and toilet roll. We absolutely love the decor in the restaurant and bar and think the sketches of their regulars are such a lovely touch and demonstrate how loved the resort is.
