Detailed Reviews
I have stayed at the Bank of Fleet on three occasions . The staff are very friendly and helpful . The rooms can be a bit hit and miss but overall are fine for £35 per person with an amazing breakfast , great value .

This has to be one of the nicest friendliest warm welcoming pub in the country. ever time iv been in the hotel bar I meet friendly local people who are happy to chat over a drink with the real fire burning in the background. theres a beer garden out the back ideally on a sunny day to sit and chill with my dog. the staff and always keen to help offer a wealth of knowledge on local places to visit. live music played on some Saturday nights a real good vib. I cant wait to go back on holiday to gatehouse of fleet and visit the Bank of fleet Hotel.

We were staying at Cally Palace Hotel for a night, but, as they weren't showing the football, we decided to try our luck in town. This was the hotel we stepped in first .. and we didn't need to walk back out!
As soon as we walked in, the barmaid turned on the football for us and asked us what we were drinking - perfect! We saw the bright lights of the Staropramen tap and the mad ourselves comfortable.
I can't find any faults with the bar area and they had also set up Covid rules throughout the building, which was comforting. The pints were reasonably priced, with plenty of choices, and the service was excellent.

After being rudley greeted by a member of staff, we were made to feel like an inconvience to the restaurant as it was supposedly 'busy'. Me and my partner chose to have starters as well as a main. The starters came out burnt and average. When the mains came out (fish and chips x2), my fish was significantly smaller than my partners, which the waitor noticed, commented on it being a half fish and tried to return it. Only to bring the same plate back saying the kitchen said it was a full fish.
After begrudgingly accepting, the chips were cold but at this point I was starving, I decided to just eat it but, as I proceeded to eat the next chip, I found a dead fly. This is unacceptable and informed the waitress. She removed the plate without a word or apology. I was then left without any explaination or acknowledgment from ANY member of staff for longer than 10 minutes. Customer service was shocking and I will not be returning to the restaurant ever again.

I stayed at the Bank of Fleet Hotel for one night and was so relieved to vacate the place the following morning. I was given a double room located at the front of the hotel. The room was very small even for one person and the ensuite was smaller than a shoebox!
When I arrived back at the hotel around midnight after a friend's 60th birthday party. I expected to have a good night sleep but the noise of a rowdy disco in the lounge/pub area kept me awake. I went downstairs to speak to the Manager but one could not be found. I went out to the beer garden and was met by a bunch of yobs shouting and cursing at each other and threatening to fight. It was not a pretty sight and quite scary. The pub was full of very drunk under-age teenagers generally making a nuisance of themselves.
The music finished around 1am and hotel guests were kept awake by the noise of people leaving the premises. A lot more cursing and other loud disgusting noises followed and some even jumped into cars even though clearly they were too drunk to walk let alone drive!
This is probably the worst hotel I have stayed in ... anywhere!

Response from bankoffleet, manager at Bank of Fleet Hotel
Responded 15 Oct 2009
I was sorry to read this review but after further investigation we found we had no single persons staying at time stated in review. We do have an occasional disco or entertainment as we cater to all.And as for underage drinking we have a strict policy for over eighteens only. we have no control when members of the public leave the premises which includes driving or noise of which we try to keep to a minimum. The staff were very disappointed at the review as it has been a busy season and this is our first bad review .As for cleanliness and service we have comment books in each room full of compliments and praise if any one wants to see.If Miss SMRH would like to get in touch and discuss the problems.

We stayed at this hotel and ate in the restaurant on June 11th 2011 and the only good thing about the hotel was that is is cheap.
The restaurant is being up-graded but the drab uniform of the staff and the pretty ordinary food, was disappointing.
After we had been in bed for a long time, music started up in the bar and continued into the early hours, and eventually I had to go down and ask for it to be turned down. At breakfast the next morning, the room next to us had been up drinking tea, as they were unable to sleep, and were also unhappy by the noise.
I will not stay here again.

Where to start with this abomination of a place?.
We were staying in Gatehouse of Fleet on holiday and decided to go in for something to eat. What a mistake.
When entering the hotel it wasn't immediately clear as to where you had to go to eat. You enter into a dark and dingy bar, the kind where the music stops when a stranger walks in. There was no one behind the bar initially but after a moment or two someone eventually told us where to go for food.
When we got around to being given a menu there was only a few things that appealed. i ordered the Seabass which wasn't cooked properly and the veg it was served with was clearly of the frozen variety as you could taste the plastic bag off them.
My friend had a cheese salad which consisted of a handful of soggy salad leaves and half a tonne of grated chedder.
All the while we had to listen to drunk idiots behaving like children from the bar.
It would have been funny if it wasn't so very tragic. This kind of place might have been acceptable in the 1970's but there are far more attractive places to eat in the local area as we found during our stay.
Avoid this place like the plague.

We popped in for spur of the moment meal - the manageress who was off duty had to remind the waitress we were waiting to be served. The starters were good -. Big delay on main course - 3rd person in our party waited a good 5 mins after ours arrived on cold plates. My hubby ordered chips with his main and got soggy veg and potatoes -the chef appeared briefly - when we mentioned the mistake he said ' have you never eaten in the bank of fleet before? You have what you are given' we are regulars and I think it was said in jest but we felt we were an inconvenience. I ordered dessert at start my fellow diners said they would see how they felt after main. My strawberry moose was plonked in front of me and the waitress didn't even ask if the others wanted anything! As for strawberry moose - it contained a quarter strawberry on top of a glass of cream with a squirt of strawberry sauce. Very disappointing meal - chef away home and waitress in bar by the time I paid the bill. £47.00 wasted.

Enjoyed a lovely midweek meal during the Easter break. Haven't eaten here before and was very pleasantly surprised. The Bank of Fleet has an excellent menu offering pub grub. The food was lovely and the portions were very generous. The prices were very reasonable. The staff were friendly and the surroundings clean. Not fancy cuisine but if you are looking for good food it's a good trip!
