The Murray Arms hotel garners consistent acclaim for its exceptional service, with staff members who are both attentive and accommodating, particularly when catering to specific dietary needs. Reviewers frequently commend the establishment's cleanliness and stylish decor, despite some suggesting practical tweaks for enhanced comfort. While guests appreciate the recently updated and well-appointed rooms, there is some critique regarding thin walls and intrusive sunlight.
Travelers enjoy the comfortable amenities, though some issues are noted with room keys and showers. Nevertheless, the hotel's approach to style sometimes overshadows substance, leading to concerns about value for the price paid.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed here 1st June for a wedding at GGs Yard with a 1:15pm bus pick up. The check-in is 4 pm which I think is very late. I spoke with Alistair who was in charge of the bar area and he was very accommodating ( chilled out) and allowed us to deposit our case in the room even though it had not been serviced. The place is recently refurbished and tastefully decorated. We were in room 2 which was lovely with a 4 poster bed but from one side of the bed you can't see the TV as one of the post impedes. The shutters in the room are very different and trendy but don't stop the sunlight in the morning. The breakfast and staff were lovely finishing at 10:00am which is also the check out time ( a wee tad early for us). Asking for more tea and coffee was not an issue and we sat in the nice outdoor area to the rear of the hotel which was a bit of a sun trap. Overall I liked the chilled out experience and staff nature.

Thank you for your detailed review and feedback! We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the recent refurbishments. We're glad Alistair was able to accommodate your needs upon arrival. Your comments have been noted. Our check-in and check-out times are similar to most hotels, however, we do offer a late check-out or early check-in which can be arranged at time of booking. Sadly we just can't make it possible to have all rooms serviced for any earlier than 4pm. It's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the outdoor area and the overall chilled-out atmosphere. We hope to welcome you back soon for another relaxing stay!

Stayed here with friends while on a photographic holiday, I can honestly say it's one of the nicest, quaint little hotels I have ever stayed in! What a beautiful place inside, apparently recently renovated, the rooms was spotless, the decor was very pleasing to the eye and the whole place has a lovely vibe about it ! The staff where friendly and really couldn't do enough for us, we needed to be out early so the staff got up early to do us early breakfast, nothing was too much trouble, a real pleasure staying here ! The breakfast was superb, top quality fresh fruits and cerals, and a cooked breakfast, there was two female staff who looked after us at breakfast, it was that good service that we left them a tip, all I can say is excellent work ladies, we loved our stay and we will be back again soon.

My wife and I went and stayed at the Murray arms for our 1st wedding anniversary after finding a deal on itison and from the moment of booking to the moment we left we had such a great experience booking the stay was so easy and the room upgrade was really cheap. Upon arrival I couldn’t get the app to work to let us in but that didn’t matter as the staff came to let us in and we’re so helpful and friendly. We stayed in room 1 which was incredible we loved it and would most definently go back. We chose to go to the gather for dinner and again the place was faultless with amazing staff, amazing food and amazing views only being 10mins from the hotel.

Room 7: don’t bother. Light streaming in from automatic hall lights all night through gaps around the door frame. On/off all night long.
Walls so thin between room 7 and Room 8
I could hear what the other guests were doing in the bathroom.
Cheap flooring meant that I could hear the room next door walking around. I’m certain the could hear me.
There are a number of rushed jobs through the hotel. I felt like I was having to do a snagging-list and not the owners. Poor finish on most things .
The worst hotel stay I’ve had in a long time, the basics have been overlooked in favour of style.
I’ve complained directly,. Their response was only about a safety issue I brought up promising a full response on the matters above. 3 weeks later, I’ve heard nothing.
I’ve been left with no choice but to post this to warn other traveler’s.

We were delighted with the quality and standard of the room, the automatic light sensor in the bathroom is not a good feature during the night.Having the Burns room and bar is a great idea however sadly it was a great disappointment. The first evening ringing the bell 3 times @8:30pm there was no service. Second evening returning @9pm the Burns room was locked and the also the bar area, we wanted to relax with friends staying here but sadly not. The cooked breakfast was excellent however it was only on the second morning I discovered by accident there was an area with fruit juice, cereals etc not visible from our table. This could have been avoided by the sever explaining your breakfast offering. The £100 deposit does not feel very welcoming, this is not a budget or Airbnb type of accommodation it’s of a very high standard. Having a reception live person would really benefit the place. I provided this feedback twice in April via email to “Lagan” disappointingly I received no reply and we had thought given all the recent refurbishment and reopening it might be useful.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We are pleased to hear that you were delighted with the quality and standard of your room and enjoyed our cooked breakfast. Your comments about the bathroom light sensor will be taken into consideration for future improvements. We apologise for the disappointment you experienced with our Burns Room and bar. During your stay, our bar was not yet fully operational, and we regret that this was not clearly communicated. Additionally, we apologise if no one answered the buzzer. We understand how frustrating that must have been. We are pleased to inform you that we now have a receptionist to assist our guests, and since launching our four new dining spaces in May, we now offer food until 8:30 pm and our bar is open until 10:00 pm. We are currently facing challenges in providing our full offerings due to the widespread issue of staffing shortages. This is affecting many businesses in the hospitality industry, and we are doing our best to manage under these circumstances. Your comments have been noted, and we are constantly striving to enhance our guest experience. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.

As a bit of a foodie I have only myself to blame for not viewing the menu before booking and presuming my experience would be as good as is at The Gather. The refurbished hotel and service were exceptional gaining it's 2 star review. Unfortunately the food did not match the interior andnservice. Extremely overpriced 'basket' food I could have made at home better. My partner and myself were celebrating a rather busy few months and hoping for something special from the newest hotel in area. The haddock goujons were over cooked and extremely dry - £18. There were only 2 starters to choose from which made us decide to give pudding a miss and go to the local shop for an ice cream. Thankfully we had as we were charged £50+ for two main meal of fish and chips and battered chicken balls and chips and 2 alcoholic drinks plus one non alcoholic drink. I would of happily paid high prices if the food matched the bill as this was a treat. Will not be back unless a drastic menu change happens. Such a shame, was looking forward to this.

Wow, gorgeous hotel. Warm and beautiful interior. Room 10 was a double and looked out onto the street. I slept like a log and it was so good, I’ve booked in for the next 6 months for business. Breakfast was also delicious and I had a lovely woman serve me breakfast. I’m lactose intolerant and they adjusted the menu for me, which was perfect. The breakfast menu also said gluten free etc, so caters for all tastes.
Thank you for the most enjoyable stay. Could have locked myself in there for days instead of going to work.

Gatehouse holds a really special place in our family hearts. For over 50 years we have spent many a happy holiday here and to return this past weekend with my mother to reminisce and remember this beautiful place was really special.
Murray Arms was always the place we came back then for morning coffee so to return and see the interior so up to date but also keeping the traditional decor that we remembered so well.
The rooms we booked were perfect for our family group, especially our dog, the only downside was the key cards weren't readily available on arrival but that was quickly sorted, and also the shower water was not at all hot in the morning and as the bathroom light automatically switched off after 7 seconds , the shower was not the best experience. Overall though we had a lovely stay and hope to return soon.

Thank you for sharing your heartfelt connection to Gatehouse. We're delighted to hear that returning to Murray Arms brought back such special memories for you. Visited here for some food. The food was fabulous as was the service. Couldn't fault any aspect of our evening and will definitely visit here again.
Just had a main course each. The food arrived within 10 minutes and was clearly freshly prepared, hot and very tasty.
Keep up the excellent service.
