Hotel's Favourite
The Ship Inn is undoubtedly our favourite hotel, so when it came to deciciding where to spend our honeymoon it was the obvious choice. We were delighted by our room which was very special, extremely spacious with a really impressive en suite complete with both roll-top bath and shower. As always the food was outstanding both in quality and value for money. But above all else the Ship has a wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere, undoubtedly due to Jonathan and Sarah who went out of their way to make us feel at home and provided much appreciated assistance when we needed it.

Hotel is in a lovely small village location, lovely staff from check-in through to the staff on both mornings for breakfast. We were in room 8 (family room only 2 of us), the bed was firm, very comfy and nice and big, really comfy pillows (we normally have to ask for extra), lovely large bathroom and loved the old style windows, plenty of wardrobe space, really nice view across to the beer garden, the river and bridge. Felt really safe in regards to covid, face masks worn by all staff and hand sanitiser available, nice to have a water machine at the reception so we could fill our bottles daily, really nice touch.

My wife and I were taking a holiday with family in England and we stayed one night on the way home to Cairnryan ferry.
From checkin to checkout covid protection measures were fully in place. All staff wore masks, plentiful hand sterilisers, and track and trace documentation. The hotel is eco friendly in providing separate drinking water recyclable cups. They minimise plastic usage and drinking water was freely available at the reception area if required.
The hotel has a beautiful beer garden by the river which we relaxed by on finding the hotel.
Reception staff were polite and very helpful. Our room was luxuriously modern, spotless and spacious, Really spotless without calling in 'Four in a bed' analysis. Good Wi-fi provided, TV a decent size, No extra cost for tea, coffee pods, and Shortbread biscuits.
The dinner provided ....was to die for... we were treating ourselves on our last night. Scottish Smoke Salmon & prawns and Game Terrine Starters were terrific local produce. Flat iron Steak - the best my wife had tasted and I loved their Loin of Venison. Needless to say anyone who can turn out 'Home-made' chips like that with such an attention to detail , will go far in the culinary world, 'Home made Chips' is a much abused word.
Bravo to the 'The Ship Inn' restaurant and thankyou for such an enjoyable night.
.
Last but not least a great credit to the staff and owner of this hotel. They were all very covid aware, consistently keeping masks on, This we did not find elsewhere. A thanks to the staff very attentive and professional.

Stayed for two nights along with a group of friends but my wife and me were very disappointed with the room we were allocated. Our booking confirmation received in advance stated we were allocated room 3 that had a view and was sound proofed along with some other facilities. However, room 3 is quite claustrophobic and appears to be the only room that does not have a view other than a small window looking out at a tiled roof angled across the window (see photo), and every time people in adjacent rooms used their bathroom it sounded like a train going past so it clearly did not have sound proofing.
We spoke to reception and we were informed the hotel was full and if we wanted another room we needed to ask another member of our party to change. We were also told that the hotel does not have any control over the room descriptions and we should contact Booking.com if we were not happy. I eventually spoke to the manager and he was pleasant but unable offer any help as again he told us he has no control over room descriptions.
On a plus side room 3 does have a nice bathroom and the public areas of the hotel are generally good and the food in the restaurant is quite nice.
Overall we were disappointed with our stay considering the cost and felt completely misled by the room description and would recommend avoiding room 3 if you are planning a stay in this hotel.

Unfortunately you didn't book the room and as I was at pains to explain you booked the room through a friend who used an online travel agent who we pay 25% commission to, which explains why I have to charge more. Hotels do not have ownership of the content used to sell their rooms through travel agents, period. The room in question has a view I cannot dispute that. If it stated that the room had a good view then of course that is misleading but again I am not responsible for how the room is marketed other than through my own website which does not even mention a view. I did offer you another room on the second night after contacting a regular to get him to switch rooms to allow you to have a different room on the second night. This was done less than 2 hours after you checked in. The first thing you mentioned to me was that the view was so awful you might not even stay and that future guests would not like to read about this room on Tripadvisor.... so here we are!!! I took full payment because the room is worth the price I charge and I am not going to negotiate to avoid a poor TA review. I pointed out the roll top bath and double monsoon shower, designer furnishings and large bathroom was a key selling point along with the bespoke KS mattress. If you only footnote the good points and wax lyrical about the bad and omit a good deal else, then I'm glad you have got it off your chest. I thought you might have mentioned that I organised for the local cheese producer to open up on a Saturday morning so we could provide a bespoke cheeseboard for your friend's 70th birthday celebration, along with meeting all the groups dietary requirements, and organising for there to be parking set aside on arrival for all five of your three wheeler motorbikes. We do this as a service and if you had booked directly yourselves you would have been able to see the full unedited (by online third parties ) description of the room which would have saved a lot of unpleasantries. There is soundproofing but we are an 18C hotel so there is a limit to what sound proofing can achieve within the constraints of a listed building.

Stayed for one night and the room was lovely, staff friendly and attentive and the attached restaurant had brilliant food.
We were viewing GGs Yard wedding venue and know this is a recommended place to stay and can certainly see why as close to the venue and with a full cooked breakfast included in the price it was really good value. Would stay again.

We booked a two night stay at the Ship Inn for a quiet couple of nights away 24/8/20. The Ship itself, is a lovely little boutique hotel beautifully renovated, lovely staff, Tasha in particular! It has a restaurant attached, "Fleet Street" which is closed on a Monday so ate elsewhere last night. The restuarant is franchised so nothing to do with the Ship, other that it being in the same building. We tried to book a table for tonight to find it was fully booked, as guests we were very disappointed. Couldn't book it yesterday when we checked in because it was closed! We realise there are fewer tables due to the circumstances at the moment. The point I'm making is why are the guests not offered the chance to book a table prior to arrival, especially during this time. We ended up cutting our stay short, came home. All the other restaurants were fully booked for tonight. This is not a criticism, purely giving our view.

I fully understand the circumstances and appreciate that your stay did not match the expectations that we pride ourselves on delivering - we do send emails with details of our COVID policy that also highlight that the restaurant needs to be pre-booked as it is run separately . We have automated this process with a read receipt and we do follow it up by phone call if the document isn't read so there is no doubt about how the hotel and restaurant operate. I would like to make amends and will call you to discuss. These were unprecedented times because of the "eat out to help out" scheme which meant that every restaurant within a 20 mile radius was booked early in the week. Many thanks for your feedback which I have taken onboard. Jonathan

We had booked the king size suite for two nights which included breakfast. On arrival check in was very quick and the young boy on reception was very helpful providing taxi numbers for us travelling to GG's Yard the following day for our friend's son's wedding. Our accommodation was perfect, lovely decor comfy bed tea and coffee facilities and a lovely modern bathroom which had both a bath and shower. Their beer garden just across the road was beside the river and staff came over on a regular basis to clear away empty glasses and to ask if we needed any more drinks. We had booked an evening meal for one night and I am coeliac but I was pleasantly surprised at how many gluten free options were available. I even had a beautiful dessert chocolate brownie sundae which was amazing, the whole meal in fact was outstanding, 10/10 to the chef and all the staff. Breakfast was just as good gluten free sausages were offered together with gluten free bread. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would most certainly like to return one day everything from start to finish was first class and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Well done everyone.

We spent a warm summers day in the beer garden at The Ship Inn. In my opinion it was the perfect location after a long walk with the dogs. It has a beautifully attended garden area where the river runs past and dogs are welcome. It's spacious, giving lots of room between tables. With such relaxing surroundings, we never noticed the wait for lunch, not that we had to wait long!
We ordered at the bar , taking our drinks with us . When the food arrived, all faces lit up , the presentation on each plate reasuring us we had made a good choice on which establishment to eat. Considering the fussy eaters I was dining with, all plates were cleared with compliments to the chef! Unfortunately I didn't get pictures that day. However, I past the Ship Inn this morning and saw this rainbow shine over. I captured it and the memory of the lovey day we spent there.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at Ship Inn with friends and disappointing service. When one pays GBP 135 per night one expects to have room serviced and bathroom cleaned. When I asked Lyn the Receptionist I was told that it wasn't their job. We made up our own bed not good. No marmalade or yoghurt at breakfast just basics that could have been bought at the local spar. Also there was never anyone in Reception. Positive feedback bed linen and towels were really nice, we had two dinners in restaurant and both times food was excellent.

We stayed here while visiting the area as a family of five - in a double bedroom and a family room. The staff were extremely polite and efficient and the rooms were spotlessly clean with very new ensuites. Breakfast was served in a pleasant bar/restaurant area promptly and with friendly service. The hotel appears to be doing everything it can to protect clients from Covid-19 whilst still managing to be friendly. The kids all wanted to return for lunch so it got their seal of approval!
The hotel is very well located - being in a lovely quiet village but very close to the A75 for getting about.
