We were visiting dear friends last weekend and had lunch here, the food was lovely, service was fast and efficient and the staff were just great! Overall, the bar area was clean, the toilets were to and the outside seating area was so inviting. We Would love to see you again!
Stayed at Kings Arms, Melrose, from Friday 29th July, for three nights. We had 3 problems.... 1. The room was very small. The en-suite was tiny and the shower door could not open fully due to hitting the wall opposite. This room (3) was situated next to the toilets serving the down stair bar/eatery. 2. On the mornings of the 3 days there was no hot water to shower/wash. This was mentioned to the management on the first and second mornings, and promises were made to 'tinker' with the boiler. This made no difference. It was obviously a long term problem. We were up, looking to shower at 8am....still no hot water. This problem was also confirmed by the couple in the room next door. 3. On 2 of the three mornings, it took 35-40mins for the cooked breakfast to arrive at the table, from the time of ordering. I had to ask on several occasions for fresh coffee. The hotel was almost empty on the Sunday night/Monday morning, but this made no difference to the hot water/length of time for breakfast to arrive. For what we were paying (£125/night, including breakfast) we would not return/recommend this establishment to anyone. Finally, on a positive, the cooked breakfast (when it arrived) was very good.…
lone salmon fisherman looking for a pint, have made loads of new friends in no time, with ease, top class beer, friendly helpful engaging staff. definitely will be back in The Autumn. perfect place to relax
The breakfast was awful and service slow so we ate elsewhere after first one despite it being included. Security a problem as room left open one day. Staff were friendly and approachable. Bathroom needs shelving.
We have been many times over the years to the Kings Arms. At our most recent visit, the meal was fine, but when I requested my usual Belhaven, I was told that they don't do Belhaven any more, and the only beer available was John Smiths. As everyone knows, John Smiths is rubbish compared to Belhaven. You will lose a lot of custom including ourselves if you persist in not serving Belhaven. Please take note of this comment and act on it in the hear future.
Stayed in Melrose for a couple of days last week, and although we didn’t actually stay in the Kings Arms we found it to be very friendly with a great atmosphere serving very good mainly traditional food. The jewel in the crown for us though was Connor the barman who was exceptional at his job in our opinion. Not only does he serve a great pint, he was so friendly and nothing was to much trouble to him including bringing a bowl of water for our black Labrador Monty.
My wife and I called in today and were served by Daniel. He was a very polite, personable and efficient young man. He showed an interest in us and also sorted out a loyalty card for us. We will certainly return
Stayed here during our trip. Room was clean, comfortable beds and a lovely shower. Food wise it would be described as a gastro pub. There is a separate bar area. Food was good - veggie burger, mac & cheese and salads. No continental breakfast was available but a sufficient selection of cooked to satisfy most people. It's clear that quite a few businesses are struggling to come to terms with Brexit and post covid issues.
