I visited Whitchester as part of a group on retreat. The setting is gorgeous, the house very comfortable and well-appointed, the food tasty and the staff extremely welcoming and accommodating. The one down side was the shower in my room, which lacked power.

This is not your average guest house. It is a wonderful warm and welcoming christian retreat centre, open to all. I have stayed on two occasions and enjoyed my stay The hosts are wonderful and hard working. The food is excellent, the portions and choice are more than adequate. Waking up to the sound of birds singing. Can hardly imagine a more relaxing Milieu for a business stay. The staff is very friendly, meals are decent. The rooms are a bit too authentic, but that's just a subjective opinion. But definitely a private feeling.

In my experience , the Whitchester is definitely a welcoming ,warm hearted place that offers a retreat , or just a stop over, for anyone who might need one. It is a comfy, old fashioned place with gorgeous surroundings, kind staff and yummy food. If you are spiritual it has an amazing prayer walk , designed by Amy who works...

Our previous church retreats had been self catering and quite daunting affairs, so this was a perfect antidote for that with being waited on hand and foot so we could get on with the purpose of the retreat, the staff bent over backwards to help us and provided us with packed lunches for our Saturday outings. I would be tempted...

This was my second stay at Whitchester and each time it has been thoroughly enjoyable. Joan and Nigel and all at Whitchester are attentive, friendly and hospitable seeking to ensure everyone has a good time there. This break was part of the Christian Walking Club and Joan and Nigel's prayerful concern was evident. I appreciated the good food, with Joan...

We have now had two church retreats at the Whitchester and we absolutely love going there. It is like "home from home," as another reviewer said. Joan, Kiran and Amy bend over backwards to meet our needs every time, and are so friendly and welcoming! The rooms are prettily decorated in an old-fashioned style, to go with the house, which...

“lovely views from the front”
Salopian982, 18 Sep 2015 | Read review
“It is a former manse - a genuine former residence, for which reason the rooms vary a lot in size. All are en-suite, but some have just a shower and not a bath. If you want a bath, ask specifically. Some rooms have better wi-fi access than others, some better phone reception than others. Two are disabled friendly (and have multi-functional beds and walk-in showers). There is a huge suite and another extra-large room. Basically, if you want something specific, ask when you make the reservation.”
