The Manor House, a superb Georgian House built in 1780 by the 5th Duke of Argyll, offers spectacular views over Oban Bay and the Isles of Kerrera, Lismore and Mull. Our owner run hotel with restaurant combines the manor’s understated but elegant appearance, the traditional values of Scottish hospitality and a highly personalised service. We are here to make your stay a most pleasant and memorable one! Our guesthouse combines excellent and friendly service with the charm of a listed building rich in heritage and character. The Manor House is particularly known for its beautifully restored dining room, which is open to guests every evening. Afternoons can be enjoyed on the terrace with majestic views of Oban Bay and beyond. Alternatively, you can take a stroll through the garden with its Georgian-inspired layout, keeping the spirit of a naturalistic park and pleasure ground alive. In front of the building you can find our private waterfront access and discover the old oyster bed. The open fire in the drawing room invites you to indulge in the opulence of the early years of the house whilst drinking afternoon tea accompanied by small delights. Find us in the adjoining bar, the perfect place for a wee dram to round off an unforgettable day. All our common areas face the garden and offer stunning views over Oban Bay, the adjacent islands, the mountains of Morvern and the Isle of Mull. Our period-style bedrooms are tastefully decorated, and all have ensuite facilities. Oban is easily accessible by many modes of transport. The Manor House is located on the south shore of Oban Bay in an enviable position with gardens accessing the sea and only a few minutes’ walk from the town centre, the ferry, bus and rail terminals. Despite its small size, Oban is the largest town in Argyll and The Isles and is known as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’ and the 'Seafood Capital of Scotland'. The most outstanding feature of Oban is McCaig’s Tower, the Colosseum-lookalike, which stands above the town overlooking the bustling fishing port. Testament to its Gaelic heritage, Oban is considered the home of the Royal National Mod, first held here in 1892, a festival of Scottish Gaelic literature, song, art and culture. Annual Highland Games, the Argyllshire Gathering, are also held in the town. The Manor House is an owner run hotel supported by a dedicated team with strong values. We are proud to be a part of its tremendous heritage and understand the importance of preserving the taste and style of this elegant Georgian house as an integral element of the experience offered. At the same time, we are committed to protecting and preserving our environment. Bowing to heritage and nature, we let this tastefully maintained and radiant manor take centre stage and aim to make it a comfort zone that fits with our commitment to sustainability, sourcing regional products and social integration in Oban, Argyll and Bute and the Western Islands. We are here for you. This is our mission. It drives us every day and is where we take our motivation from. We, the owners, have spent two and a half decades travelling and living around the globe before settling in Scotland, which we found to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Scotland's breath-taking landscapes, rich culture and heritage has worked its charm on us and will hopefully do the same to you, our guests! You are invited to contact us prior to, during and after your trip – we are only too happy to assist, and can do so in English, French or German. We value the benefits of being a local business. We aim to promote and support products and services from local sources within and beyond our business. By doing so, we work in close and trusted partnership with the finest local producers and suppliers, emphasising fairness and sustainability. Excellent quality, freshness of local produce and integrity of the source are a fundamental part of the dining experience we create. Many of our producers steeped in local tradition can be visited while you explore the area, offering rich insights into the customs of the region and bringing you to some of the most amazing places in Scotland.

The Manor House Hotel Oban garners widespread acclaim for its spotless cleanliness and traditionally charming atmosphere, as noted by numerous guests. The staff's friendly and attentive service frequently enhances the experience of staying here. While some guests find the hotel to be on the expensive side, the harbor views and well-appointed rooms, particularly the deluxe ones with impressive vistas, are often highlighted as redeeming features. Although the room sizes can be a point of contention, the hotel's serene location, a short walk from town, and its array of praised amenities contribute to its appeal.

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights on the recommendation of a friend and to say we were not disappointed is an understatement. The hotel is small(only 11 rooms) but beautifully appointed and just the type of hotel we prefer to stay in.It is situated on the outskirts of Oban but within an easy ten minute walk of the town centre via a pedestrian walkway through the ferry terminal. The location directly on the seafront is perfect and some rooms have sea views. All rooms are individual as befits the character of the building and nicely decorated with welcome additional touches of fresh flowers, chocolates and fruit in the room as well as the lounge which a perfect spot to relax with a drink or a book in front of a roaring log fire. The staff were all very helpful and friendly without being obtrusive.Unfortunately due to winter hours we were unable to dine in the hotel on our first night but did do so on the second. The food was beautifully presented and showed good use of local ingredients and the canapés to start were another nice touch as would have been the complimentary vintage port afterwards if we had felt up to it after a large meal! Breakfast portions were huge and more than sufficient to keep us fuelled up for a busy day sightseeing or shopping.Everything was cooked to order which was nice in these days of fast pre cooked food.If we were ever back in the area we would definitely stay here again and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends.Altogether it is deserving of the best hotel in Oban

We returned to the Manor House for a night before joining a cruise ship in Oban. The location, overlooking the harbour is perfect if you are taking a ferry from Oban or just visiting the town which is a five minute walk away.
Now under the ownership of Daniel and Beatrice the hotel still has a lovely traditional feel to it but the decor has been refreshed and everywhere was spotless. We stayed in Room 4 , a large comfortable room which faces the road but was not at all noisy. It has the benefit of a large bathroom with both bath and separate shower. We enjoyed our evening meal and breakfast. Both meals were nicely presented, fresh and tasty and the staff were friendly and efficient. A super-sized gin and tonic from the bar overlooking the harbour was just what was needed after our long journey.
After we had checked out, we had some time to wait before joining our ship and Daniel invited us to use the lounge and bar. We greatly appreciated being able to use the wifi and have a coffee. Needless to say, we shall be back next time we are cruising!

It was great to get away and stay in this relaxing environment.
Small hotel, with only eleven rooms, and the tenor throughout is a bit old-fashioned, but none the worse for that.
We had a sea view (extra), but it was worth it to watch the ferry traffic etc coming and going. Comfortable bed, old fashioned wooden wardrobe, desk and two comfortable chairs made up the furnishings along with two bedside tables, lights within easy reach.
The dining area for breakfast was small, and seemingly pressed into service to accommodate social distancing. Breakfast was great, and it was nice to have fresh, warm toast brought to your table.
The lounge looked comfortable, but was barely patronised thanks to the mask-wearing requirements, thankfully absent in one's room or dining area.
Very pleasant and helpful staff.
Thoroughly recommended.

The Manor Hotel is definitely one to be avoided. I understand it has been sold recently but the new owners haven’t yet taken over. We stayed there for 1 night on the 28th August. It was originally a booking for 3 nights in total but we cancelled the other 2 because of our experience. It began during dinner with a request by me for a side salad if possible (for which we were more than happy to pay). The menu did not show any vegetables served with any of the main dishes and there were no side dishes listed separately. I usually eat salad at most meals. The response by a waiter serving us (name supplied if the hotel owners wish to get in touch) whose attitude had been offhand from the outset, was shocking. He effectively said the menu was as it was, and take it or leave it. The hotel kitchen, he said, did not have any salad leaves and neither did it offer any other type of vegetable. ‘I didn’t write the menu’ was one of his utterances . I was left speechless by his attitude which was aggressive and confrontational in response to a simple request. We left the dining room as soon as we’d eaten the main course. The following day I attempted to speak to the manager but was told by the rude waiter who was on reception that he had just left the post. I asked who was the manager now and his words were ‘I suppose I am for as long as it lasts’. I therefore told him that I was unhappy at the way he’d spoken to me the previous night . His response was that he didn’t like the way I’d spoken to him. He was confrontational and rude. At that, my partner told him that he was being confrontational and that that was no way to speak to guests. He replied‘ No, you are ‘ My partner thereupon cancelled the further 2 nights and requested our bill which we paid. We wished to leave immediately but as we walked through the door the man continued to shout abuse, trying to engage us in an argument : ‘ Feel free to turn your backs on me ‘ as we exited the hotel on to the car park. The hotel’s reputation, which no doubt has been built up over many years, is being quickly destroyed by the staff left rudderless and unsupervised, no doubt anticipating that their jobs will soon end with a new owner . It appears that some of them couldn’t care less how they behave. The atmosphere of the hotel is oppressive because of staff attitude. Incidentally upon inspection of the bill we note that we were overcharged for a room with a sea view, when ours had a view of the car park. In our hurry to leave and get away from this man we had not checked our bill.

By way of additional information the menu was disappointing. Oban is known as ‘the seafood capital of Scotland’ and we were looking forward to trying some of the local seafood : mussels, langoustine, crab and even some renowned local lobster. There was nothing of the kind on the menu. The only fish dishes offered were salmon, sea bass or scallops, all of which can be bought from most pub menus in the country. One got the feeling that the chef was perhaps emptying the freezer before the new owners take over

This is the worst review we have had in years. Looking at the author it appears her reviews are either 5 or 1. The menu clearly shows all the vegetables included with each dish. As we cannot do lunches due to Covid spacing, I can understand how the kitchen might not have had the fixings for a proper salad. I will correct that. As for the comment about emptying the freezer, it is ridiculous. All produce is fresh daily. We have a dedicated staff that have worked hard to create our reputation and they are continuing until the end of the season. We have owned and loved the Manor House for 20 years. The staff are being well looked after on redundancy. Other staff members witnessed the confrontation at check out, describing the reviewer as very aggressive, close talking and finger pointing while not wearing the required mask. They dispute the reviewer’s description. These are difficult times. You can see by other reviews that this does not reflect the Manor House style. The staff are proud of the reputation and wish to retain it to the close. Les Crane Owner

My late husband and I stayed here regularly over the last few years and it was one of our favourite hotels. This was my first visit without him, but owners Daniel and Beatrice couldn’t have been kinder or more welcoming. I didn’t know the hotel had changed hands but it’s as lovely as ever, the standards just as high, and the attention to detail is heartwarming. Daniel and Beatrice are real hands-on hosts, always in evidence and always ready to do anything they can to make your stay a memorable one. Nothing is too much trouble.

When they first took over they considered making the hotel bed and breakfast only, but fortunately they relented (the Manor House without its restaurant: unthinkable!) and the dining room remains as charming, elegant and full of character - with its beautiful panelling and tartan carpet - as ever. Catering is in the hands of an excellent chef and Simon, the Food and Beverages Manager, and the food is delicious and very well presented.

My bedroom was beautifully furnished and very clean, the toiletries of a high quality, and the sea views are something you never tire of. I stayed for three nights just because it’s such a lovely place to be, Oban’s a great little town and there’s easy access by ferry to the isles. In the warmer weather you can sit on the terrace or in the pretty garden and look over the water to Kerrera and Lismore; stunning sunsets too.

Well done to Daniel and Beatrice and the whole team. I look forward to my next visit in 2022.

Came across this quite by chance and oh my what a find!!!

Lovely welcome from owners Daniel and Beatrice, had no idea how wonderful our time here would be...
Rooms and areas absolutely spotless, high quality bedding, toiletries etc.

The terrace with the most spectacular view and varied gin menu was wonderful, Daniel even provided us with blankets to make us comfortable!

The dining experience was an amazing and taste sensation, the chef is very talented and the plates served were a work of art. Lovely service at dinner and breakfast.

We can't wait to return and wish The Manor House all the success it deserves.
Go go go you will not be disappointed.

We had one night here. The room was well appointed with antique-stile furniture. Dinner was relaxed, but the food was excellent. The staff were attentive and helpful. Comfortable bed. And breakfast was excellent. The smoked salmon scrambled egg timbale is highly recommended!

Altogether, a quality experience in a small, private hotel (not a chain operation...). And the owner was lovely to talk to over breakfast!

Our 3rd visit to MH and yet again, despite the "new norm", our stay was prefect. A lot of care and attention is given to make us feel safe throughout the hotel, dinning and bedrooms.
We stayed for two nights and dined both nights where the food was once again faultless. If the Vodka Pannacotte is on the menu, do not pass this by!!! It's one of the best that I've ever tasted!!!

We were there back in February and now it's July and we still remember our stay there in the best way. Extremly snug and comfortable rooms and furniture, warmhearted wellcome and service, well considerate endowment, gives one the feeling of floating over all. This house deserves to have some hard regular guests who pledge on it. The best was this nice lady in the morning at the breakfast service. We remember her heartly.
We would love to come back.

From now on, when I read a murder mystery set in a country house I shall picture the Manor House Hotel. It is a building of great character, sympathetically decorated and furnished and supremely comfortable. The superior rooms overlooking the bay are well worth the supplement as there is always something to watch in the harbour below. Daniel and Beatrice are charming and helpful hosts and made us feel “at home” very quickly - the afternoon trays of tea on our return and our regular nightcaps made for a comfortable routine and the feeling of being spoiled. The breakfasts were varied and plentiful. We are already planning our return.
