First of all this is a wonderful place with spectacular views looking over to the city of Cardiff and the Bay, simply stunning. The Hotel is large and the rooms are huge. You can book breakfast and dinner at reception. The facilities are great and I would say book a stay here and make your own minds up. On arrival the receptionist was very friendly and checking in was really quick. We made our way down to the room which was sort of in the old servants’ quarters of this huge mansion. The room was very large with two king size beds and looked amazing. The floor was very nice dark wooden boards. There was a large bathroom very clean with shower gel and shampoo supplied. Looking out of the room were large patio doors that opened onto a spectacular view looking towards the city of Cardiff and the whole bay area, this was stunning. Now the things that I picked up on. The floors although nice were not great when the temperature drops, so take a pair of sleepers. The is an electric wall heater but when its cold it does nothing for the room. There is another heater in the cupboard so I assume people have not been happy in the past. The towels in the bathroom were adequate but one of the bath towels looked like it had been washed to an inch of it life and was frayed over the outside. There were no toiletries for washing your hands or face apart from the smallest round bar of soap that was impossible to open. Caution the floor of the bathroom is stunning but extremely slippery when wet. So what was I expecting? Well to be honest when you spend £130+ per night I expect a lot. The towels should have been big fluffy and white, there should have been an array of toiletries, there should have been more biscuits (one packet, come one, along with only one bottle of water). Look guys its lovely place but you are missing a treat here. If you think people are not going to pick up on the simplest of things then you need to think again. You have a stunning hotel in a stunning location. Its not cheap so make sure you never miss a thing and check the rooms for everything you would want when you go away even on a one night stay. Like I said at the opening, great hotel and stunning views. Just the little things that mean a lot makes your stay a more enjoyable memory.

Lovely hotel and larger room than expected. Views are amazing. Our visit coincided with a wedding, held in a permanent hotel marquee but overwhelming at times in the main bar. Evening meal food very good, though watch the ÂŁ40 a head dinner add-on option as the most we could spend was c. ÂŁ31 for 3 courses. The hotel agreed to include our bottle of wine (separately charged) which did even things up, so credit for acknowledging and actioning so quickly. Overall good hotel we will be happy to return to.

I treated myself to a night away by myself to recover from six months of home schooling. So pleased I chose New House, it was the best hotel I’ve stayed in in years.
I stayed in Squires which is a lovely room at the front with a bay window overlooking the incredible views. Due to proximity to the front of the hotel and gravel terrace I was a bit worried I’d be kept awake by noise, but it was almost silent (there were no functions on, and closing the shutters at the windows may have helped too) and the only sounds I heard were the bleating of sheep in the field opposite.
Dinner was incredible and a full cooked breakfast was just what I needed. All the staff I encountered were really pleasant, and the whole stay was an absolute treat, very restorative. I’ll definitely stay again!

Upon arrival my husband and I were truly amazed by the beautiful scenic views at what appeared to be an outstanding hotel.
Unfortunately, our opinion soon changed when entering the "charlotte" superior double room which was a dark room situated on the first floor with windows overlooking an enclosed rooftop. There were no usual complimentary toiletries (as seen on the images on booking.com), apart from shower gel and shampoo - not even a tiny tube of toothpaste, but then again there was not even a glass to store a toothbrush in the bathroom. The toilet needed to be flushed (and cleaned properly).
There was a half sized cupboard situated under the TV, which was only tall enough for items such as jackets, shorts and skirts - not the long dress I had brought for dinner. Also, there was no refrigerator.
Even through our disappointment, we were still looking forward to dinner and made our way downstairs. We asked a waitress where we could find the restaurant and were taken outside in the rain to the glass structure and told to sit anywhere we liked. However, once sat, we were then asked to move by another waitresses as this table had apparently been reserved.
Once moved, we selected our main courses. The food was delicious although could have been hotter. Once we had finished our dessert, we were immediately advised by the same waitress that they required the table back for the next sitting - however, we had only been sat there for just over one hour!
My husband made this reservation via booking.com as a birthday treat for me. It did not include breakfast and at the cost of ÂŁ162.20, we have stayed in far better hotels.
My birthday dinner was cut short and ruined the mood for the rest of the evening.

We chose this hotel as a base to travel round this part of Wales as there were various places we wanted to visit.
On arrival we found that we were upgraded to a different room than the one we had chosen. The room was lovely, with a balcony that we could sit out on and look at the views over Cardiff. The bed was a four poster, lovely I thought till I sat in it, it creaked so loud that we burst out laughing, there was no way that we could spend four nights in this bed!
We asked at reception if there was another room and were shown to a lovely large room, again with beautiful views across the grounds to Cardiff. The only thing wrong with the room as that every few minutes we had to keep logging into the WiFi as it kept cutting out, not good when you are trying to book entry into museums etc.
We ate in the restaurant that evening, the choice of menu was small but the food was lovely, well presented and beautifully cooked. We were asked what we wanted to drink, we asked for the wine list but the waiter just said a couple of wine choices, though we did notice that other couples were given a wine list later on.
Breakfast the next morning was a strange affair, for a four star hotel there was no menu so we had to guess what we could have for breakfast, also we were told that there was a continental choice as well, but this just turned out to be cereal, a small bowl of fruit, yogurts and pastries, there were no cheeses, bread, mixed meats things that you associate with a continental breakfast.
On the last morning, breakfast was rather a disaster, I asked for smoked salmon, scrabbled egg on toast, my partner asked for scrambled eggs, sausage, beans and mushrooms. When this came the toast came first followed by scrambled egg with a couple of slice of smoked salmon on top, my husband as the waitress for some brown sauce, I tasted my eggs they were stone cold as were my husbands, we waited for the waitress to return and told her, she put her hand on my food and agreed they were indeed cold so she replaced these with fresh, the sauce finally came but the gentleman across the way never got his, a pen and paper might help the waitress to remember what people asked for, as they were also brought coffee instead of tea!,
On the whole the place was style over substance, for the cost it definitely isn’t worth it, I have stayed in better three star hotels.

Stayed for a couple of days whilst visiting Cardiff.
Pros
Beautiful location
Amazing views
Fabulous food
Good service despite very limited staffing
Spacious room with large sunny balcony
Cons
Very dark room with very dingy lighting
Very very soft bed - both of us left with back pain
Lovely looking shower, but very low pressure water
Weddings on every day / night, very noisy music until very late.
Inconsiderate wedding guests shouting and screaming in the corridors at 2.30am
Very small tv with very limited channels
Bill incorrect - over charged for both meals, glad we checked!
Overall we had an ok stay whilst visiting family locally. Would not recommend staying whilst weddings are on though. For ÂŁ150 per night B&B we were hoping for a more relaxing stay.

We[[ you are halfway up Caerphilly Mountain and the view overlooking Cardiff is lovely. Once inside things just get better. We were a party of 12 for lunch on Monday 11/04. Our table was beautifully laid in silver and white> The food was carefully presented and my choices were delicious. Our party was 30 minutes late in seating - no problem. I sit down and spill my aperitif - no problem. Service was performed quickly and discretely. Special thanks to Ashley for making things run fuss free and smoothly.

Here for 4 nights (31Oct - 4Nov) and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Our room was spacious and very comfortable with a great view towards Cardiff & the bay. Lovely to have a comfortable settee to sit on and finish a bottle of wine in the evening after a tasty, enjoyable meal in the Sequoia restaurant. The en suite was also spacious and had an excellent walk in shower. (A chair to put clothes on would have been useful, a minor point).
In addition to good facilities an a reasonably priced high quality restaurant, what really added to making this an enjoyable stay was the staff. Without exception, every member of staff we met, whether it was in the restaurant, front desk or cleaning staff, were friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. A great team!

Unless you’re staying here or getting married no matter how empty the hotel is or the restaurant is outside and in you can’t enjoy a meal here with friends or family. I’ve recommended this place to so many people and they’ve been turned down. (Embarrassing) We called to book and we’ve walked in before, but since last year we’ve been told we can’t book and neither can others unless you’re having an event. We came today as the weather was beautiful, a few tables occupied outside and we asked the receptionist if we could possibly sit and have some drinks and a meal and she said unless you’re staying here you can’t. We asked if it would be okay to even though we’re not staying and it’s empty, we were prepared to spend a pretty penny and it been off season for my partner it was a treat for us to have a glass of wine maybe! She then said the other reason we can’t was because people might suddenly come back from watching Ed Sheeran and if they do that would cause issues with “out of the hotel” guests sitting down…. Ok
Never mind.

Fantastic hotel. Stayed for one night at the weekend with our Bernese Mountain dog (puppy) and the staff were very welcoming and accomodating. They have a selection of dog friendy rooms (not all rooms are dog friendly which is good for those with dog allergies) and whilst dogs aren't allowed in the main restaurant they are welcome in the bar where you can eat. We'll definitely be coming again.

Rooms 21,22,23 ,24 have great views across to Cardiff bay and both bath and seperate shower
HI, sorry for the late reply. Our dog friendly bedrooms are located on the lower ground floor with access out into the gardens, unfortunately room 8 is not one of these. However these rooms are spacious with lovely views over Cardiff with both a shower and bath.
Yes a deso smoko area.
They do have lager and beer.
It says dog friendly on the website but don't know from personal experience.
The fish and chips cone, were excellent very tasty and plenty for all of us even my 13 year old grandson.
