I was a bit apprehensive about booking this hotel as previous reviews from the summer either said it was perfectly acceptable for its location or it was really dirty and people arrived to find their booking wasn't honoured. As I was travelling alone, I wanted to know that I had a room and it was in a location that I knew and felt safe in. While I can understand some comments that the hotel needs some cleaning and maintenance in the corridors (a broken glass panel in a fire door that I had seen mentioned months ago), I can imagine that it is a very well used hotel and not always given the greatest care by guests, but my room and bathroom were perfectly clean and comfortable, the noise from the pub next door acceptable and ear plugs resolved the faint noise, the staff were friendly and my stay was exactly what I needed for the mid-week price for a convenient one night stay when a lack of reasonable public transport in evenings in Wales meant I had to stay over. I wouldn't like to pay extortionate prices which I can imagine on event nights, but for a cheap, cheerful, convenient stay right in the city centre, I was happy and would book again.

We had a great stay and we slept really well . It is situated very close to the railway station and in an excellent location for exploring the city and bars, the room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable with very little noise. The staff were very helpful and check-in was quick.

Stayed here as location was perfect for a gig at the principality . Arrived and was dealt with by Louise , she was super friendly for us checked in and sorted and gave us her details in the event of any issues .
The room itself was spotless , no air con was a drawback but they had opened windows kept curtains closed and provided fans saw a lot of reviews about noise as well. Yes it’s right by walkabout which is open till the early hours and yes we could hear music from the room , but it wasn’t as bad as I’d feared and we slept pretty well . Would stay again if at an event in Cardiff

Pros of staying here
- Conveniently placed near bus and train station and shops and between 2 Wetherspoons pubs

- Reception staff are lovely

- Hotel seems secure and discreet and felt safe

Cons of staying in this hotel

- Rooms are stifling hot and was 33 degrees

Windows as covered in black cardboard making it even hotter and we were unable to move them ourselves. This is not acceptable when people are paying guests

- Cleanliness of rooms weren't great and soap toilet paper were not topped up during our 5 day stay or clearly checked

- Maintenance checks are clearly not been carried out as water pressure and temperature are awful and unable to get hot water at times

- No luggage storage which for a hotel is ridiculous. How can you call yourself a hotel if you don't have luggage storage. That's ridiculous

Room was extremely hot. I asked to move rooms as felt like radiator was stuck on high, my request was refused. My daughter had heat rash just from being in the hotel room. The staff are rude and inconsiderate. The room and bathroom was unclean, the toilet even had skid marks when we got there. I had to ask 3 times in one day for fresh towels and rubbish to be removed despite leaving the top me up hanger on the door.

I am disabled, I stated I needed a room that was near lifts, I was given a room 2nd furthest away from Lifts! When I got to room I discovered I was given a room with a broken window! The latch was broke, I could have jumped out of the window a killed myself, health n safety conduct was broken! it was so noisey. So much light in the room. Worst two nights I ever had plus I had no shower gel in dispenser and no loo roll at all! I had to wipe my bum with my bare hands! I asked for loo roll and they said I wasn’t allowed any. I asked for shower gel so I could wash my hands they wouldn’t give me any. It made me feel dirty.

Very nice and well presented/maintained hotel with friendly staff. Best thing about the hotel is the location. I was going to an event at the Utilita Arena so the walking distance was minimal. Cardiff Bay is only 30 minutes walk so on the second day I had a nice walk around there. 48 hours parking at the train station close by was convenient but you may wish to factor this cost in (around £13 per day). There are also tonnes of restaurants and shops nearby so overall this is an amazing location for events at the Utilita Arena, with plenty to see and do close by. I hope to stay here again in the future.

Make sure you check your room thoroughly, and if there is any damage, please report it to reception and take photos, or you will be charged for someone else damaging the room. The staff obviously didn't check the room. As some in our group have been blamed for damage, they never did. We are a group of respectable women.

We are having the most wonderful stay at Travelodge Cardiff Central and this is mainly due to the absolutely wonderful Reception staff Amanda and Dylan. They are both friendly, helpful, professional, so knowledgeable about the local area and have gone above and beyond to make our family trip with our two young children extra special. Staff like Amanda and Dylan really are the staff you always hope will greet you at a hotel but rarely do you get. They are a credit to Travelodge. Thank you both.

Travelodge Cardiff Central was easy to find - so close to Cardiff Central Railway Station, we have got a lovely sized family room up on the third floor - the most spacious family room we've ever had! Comfy beds, thick, fluffy towels, good room temperature. We are thoroughly enjoying our stay and I'm sure we will be back! Highly recommend.

Have a look at my pictures and judge for yourself.

I was given the first room and, to my shock and surprise, the shampoo holder opened up, revealing the most disturbing, worrying, and disgusting sight: mould and water instead of shampoo. Then, when I went to wash my hands, the soap holder also opened up, and I saw flies inside. I was moved to a different room, but room 131 was just as bad. Additionally, there was a strong smell of new paint in the corridors, dusty carpets, and the two rooms I was given. I felt very sick being in the bed. I did not use the facilities and was disgusted by it all.

There were kids and dogs in this hotel, and it must be inspected as soon as possible as someone could end up dying of sickness. It is very embarrassing that this is in the capital of Wales. It seems you are more concerned about making money than looking after people's health. You did not allow me to cancel the booking within 30 minutes of booking, and now I see why.
