What a lovely hotel! Recently renovated it is very stylish and really exceeded our expectations. The breakfast was lovely with plenty of options to keep the whole family happy and the customer service was spot on. Couldn't fault it for the price at all!

My wife and I recently spent nine nights at the Premier Inn at Cardiff North. We were visiting our eldest daughter and family who had recently had another baby and, because of ongoing renovations to their house, we needed to stay elsewhere but reasonably close by.

We basically used the Inn as an overnight stay leaving first thing in the morning and returning at bedtime. Due to current COVID restrictions our interaction with staff was very limited. Our room was not visited unless we requested it, likewise our toweling and bedding was only changed at our request. These arrangements worked very well apart from one day when our tea and coffee supplies were not replenished; a simple oversight easily rectified by the Reception desk on our return.

The rooms at Cardiff North are very comfortable as is the bed. There is no shortage of hot water in the bathroom and we were more than happy using this Premier Inn as a base for visiting family.

A few points worth considering were that on this occasion the lift was not working for the duration of our stay. This would have been problematic had we been on the top floors however, as we were on the first it wasn’t an issue. It would be worth checking though if it has been repaired before you book your stay.

It was also extremely warm in Cardiff during this period and the air conditioning could have been more effective during the night. The room (306) was very warm and better air conditioning would definitely have helped; something for the management to look at

This is a good location for visiting Cardiff. A number of key shopping outlets are located nearby close by and it is a short drive into the city Centre. The Inn is very clean and the current arrangements for managing COVID-19 are effective.

Staff were pleasant on each occasion that we interacted with them and although we only had breakfast on one occasion, it was more than adequate and social distancing arrangements are in place.

We have stayed here on previous occasions and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. The overall cost was extremely reasonable for what we needed. These are challenging times but we were very content with our stay here and how things are currently being managed.

Glad to be able to stay as it has just open after lockdown, I arrived late but I was attended immediately and directed to my room, as there was a problem with the pass key I was meet at the room so that I could go in and settle whilst the key could be checked, a short while later the key was returned and I settled in for a restful night. In the morning I went down for breakfast, I was meet promptly and shown a table, I was the only one there at that time but others followed, my order was taken by a very cheerful and efficiently young lady and food came as requested and I was kept a distance away from other guests and the staff had face masks, the meal was well cooked and hot as usual....very enjoyable. I returned to my room collected my possessions and checked out.

I was very pleasantly surprised with the room, tea, coffee, hairdryer, fan, hand soap and shower gel as well as a wardrobe with space for hanging and storing clothes were all avaiblable in room 303 and the room was spotlessly clean, the bath was a little tired but clean. I'd recommend using the upgraded £5 for 24 hours WiFi. I'd definitely stay again. 10 out of 10 for the receptionist named alethea. She was wonderful.

We stayed in Room 426. It was clean and they have ample parking space. Hotel will benefit an updated look and air conditioning facility. TV set is more like a PC monitor of 21" standing on the desk. It has a very small bathroom - space for only one person to even washing your hands. Lumpy pillows and the bed is on its way out to waste collection site soon.
The worst stay of my Premier Inn experience in the last 3 years.

My wife & I stayed for one night with our 2 sons, my brother & his wife. We were in Cardiff for a sporting event with my son. Rather than a 4 hour drive there & 4 hour drive back we decided to stay. As it had been my brother’s birthday this week he & his wife also joined us.

We have regularly stayed at Premier Inns up & down the country. So we were really surprised at the Cardiff North venue. The hotel is shabby, run down & totally unloved.

Upon arrival we were told we had ordered a double room, a family room & an accessible room. We had ordered 2 doubles & 1 twin. We were told because we booked in late we would have to have what we were given. Check in was 4 pm & we arrived at 4.50 pm.

My brother’s room smelt like a hospital. The beds in all rooms were certainly not the quality we have come to expect from Premier Inn. The beds had dips on the middle & we’re incredibly uncomfortable. Our bathroom was so small you couldn’t swing a cat. Due to how uncomfortable the beds were we got very little sleep.

When we arrived for breakfast we were told there was no tables for 6 people as the 2 they had were taken despite booking it upon arrival at the hotel the day before.

A member of staff came over & asked if we would like tea or coffee. I asked for a coffee & an orange juice. The staff member put her hand out & said I’m only doing tea or coffee at the minute.

When we ordered our breakfast, my wife asked if they could also bring tomato ketchup. We were told we don’t have tomato ketchup. I later found 2 sachets in a bowl on the table.

When the breakfast arrived it was very poor quality. Another disappointment as breakfasts at Premier Inns are usually really nice.

When we checked out my wife stood at reception for at least 10 minutes whilst the rude member of staff from breakfast sat behind reception talking to 2 members of staff. My wife was totally ignored.

Eventually, we deposited our room keys in the box in reception & left without advising staff how disappointing our stay had been because they were at reception chatting away.

If like us you are used to decent Premier Inn’s with comfy beds, decent rooms, delicious breakfasts & friendly staff, do not book the Premier Inn at Cardiff North. It’s an absolute disgrace & complete waste of money. Our weekend was spoilt as a result.

Started brilliantly and ended very, very badly.

Arrived early and was lucky enough to be given an early check in allowing us to attend a local wedding. Much appreciated, thank you.

Arrived back at the hotel in the early hours and received the poorest customer service from the front of house.

Requested additional pillows and was firstly accused of sneaking additional people into our room as a pillow each is enough for anybody. We then explained they were needed to offer additional support due to a medical reasons. The delightful member of staffs responce was simply and sarcastically 'yeah alright bruv'. After pushing the point again we were told they have no additional pillows and even if they did reception was too busy to come to our room.

I cannot actually believe that such a simple request was dealt with in such a manner. Really shocking service.

We have escalated this to both local management and to their central corporate team. I await a call back to discuss 😔😟

Response from Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, Other at Premier Inn Cardiff North Hotel
Responded 25 Aug 2021
Hi there, thanks for taking the time to review our hotel. Whilst we're happy you stayed with us and you were able to check in early, we're sorry for the service you receive when requesting additional pillows. We can imagine this left you feeling let down and this certainly isn't how we want our guests to feel. We'd like to assure you we'll raise your comments with the Hotel Manager to see what improvements can be made going forward. We wouldn't want your experience to happen again so the Reception Team will be informed to ensure any necessary retraining is arranged and the best service is being provided. We hope this doesn't make you think twice about returning so please have confidence this isn't our usual standard and your comments will be picked up. Thanks again for getting in touch and we hope to see you again soon. Ricky

Despite reading all of the reviews before hand we decided to just book. We only needed a place to stay after our day trip to Barry.
You definitely get what you pay for, like the other reviews the rooms were rather warm but the website does state there is no air conditioning. We were provided with a fan. We also requested a travel cot which was in the room ready for us and looked brand new! The bathroom was rather small. The rooms are basic but clean, they served purpose for us who just needed somewhere to sleep. The staff were all friendly and helpful from the moment we checked in until we left.
Breakfast is rather costly, at £9.50 per person when it’s unlimited but you have to keep asking waitresses to get you something, it is rather steep. Understandably staff are trying their best during these times and could not be faulted at all! They were constantly on the go but there is a slight wait if you need them.
Overall, the hotel was basic but it does the job if you just need somewhere to lay your head.

Whilst Cardiff North disabled room has all the handrails and emergency cords ect it's bathroom isn't accessible. There is no wet room just a lowered bath but because the space is so tight between toilet and sink you cannot get a wheelchair or walker in to use the sink . Because there was no space it is impossible to get into the bath safely to use the shower which meant I couldn't take a shower and after a road trip this was what looking forward to .
The bed whilst low is very old and creaked everytime you moved which meant sleeping was difficult and added to my chronic pain levels, this hotel needs disabled rooms that disabled people can actually use !

Ok so this hotel is over 50 years old and it feels it.
Its worn out and tiered and some of the staff look the same too.
Not the nicest of places, some doors hanging off hinges on utility cupbosrds.
Bathroom was filthy with rusty grab handles.
Everywhere smells a different smell.

The vending machines are not well looked after.

We paid an extra £10 each for breakfast and reslly wish we hadnt.
We was under the impression it was a tyme restaraunt so breakfast would be fine as these are newer and fresher, but this was just a buffrt of absolute rubbish from tins or containers. The fruit salad was decantered on top of the old one from a catering pack in front of everyone.
To me that ssys the bowl just gets filled and dtored never washed. Everything about this place was dirty and sticky.

If i could get my money back i would take it.

It sleeps right next to the motorwsy too which means in fairness your not going to sleep, like we didnt.

Remodernise this place or make room for private housing.

Hello there, apologies for our late response. I'm afraid this isn't something we'd be able to guarantee as it would depend on how full the hotel is due to be the following evening. It's certainly worth speaking with the hotel directly as they can put a request on your booking for this? You can reach them on 0333 234 6430 (option #). I hope you have a lovely stay. Ricky
